Exceptional

This is a stirring write and a poignant reminder of man's crimes against animals...The last stanza, the most powerful, very accurately tells of pride as the motive for cruelty and that goes for attitude towards all man undertakes, motivated by pride.

Dear Donka Kristeva Thank you for your review and the awesome SIX stars. Yes, man has much to answer for with his arrogance and murderous intent towards animals and Nature in general. Thanks again cheers Cass

Hi There, I like the way you describe the different birds in your lovely poem. I love the owl, and we have them in abundance here. Equally so with the Eagle. I live in the mountains. I liked your poem a lot. Good luck. All the best. Ulla:))

Dear Ulla, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Owls are my favourite birds bar none. They are such beautiful creatures, so soft their feathers, so deadly their talons. So faithful to their mate. Eagles are wonderful too. They also mate for life, defend their young to the death and live in high cold places where they are safest. They are an inspiration to me to live at the highest level of consciousness and be the best I can be. cheers Cass

Bravo, author! Good job of showing what is happening to our wildlife due to man's selfish and uncaring ways.

"Man is cruel in his pride
Spares not creatures wild and free.
Time will come to pay the price
And then, he may remember."

Good job. Bob

Dear Bob, Thank you for your review and the five stars. The poem was written late at night after a day thinking about birds and other wild creatures. I didn't really take much notice of it until the next morning when I realized I had an entry for this contest.

Very well said and written. I do love the concept of the animal totems, very few understand this or even believe in it. I agree that someday there will be a price to be paid and mankind will be the one paying. Very enjoyable, thanks for sharing this.

Dear Friend, Thank you for your review and the five stars. the Totem concept is one i have held for many years. As a child I would often imagine myself prowling like a wolf, or swooping down like a vengeful eagle, talons outstretched. I love owls, though and would imagine myself sitting on a branch in a forest waiting for nightfall. Then I'd spread my wide, silent wings and ghost away to my nest. It always gave me strength and I truly believe it was the animals themselves that gave me courage to go on . Cheers Cass

You are most welcome. The animal totems or spirits play a large part in any of the aboriginal/ native peoples. Perhaps you are indeed blessed with one, since you have the interest in the owl it is probably that one, a good sign of wisdom and strength.

Excellent Poem! The author's words are strong, heartfelt and thought
provoking. The reader thought about a book she has called "Animals Speak".
The book is about animal totem and what they can teach us. The poem
flows and connects well.

Excellent. This is powerful poem with great imagery. All of the totem animals are at the top of their food chain. Yet they are are eclipsed by the most dangerous predator of all, humans. I love the karmic aspect of this poem Well done. Hugh

Dear Hugh, Thank you for your review and the five stars. I never saw the Karmic aspect of this piece until you mentioned it.
Yes, Karma will be paid when man has reached the end of his resources and then turns empty handed to the Earth for sustenance. What will he do then? time will tell. Cheers Cass

Your poem doesn't paint a very pretty picture of man, but then again, I guess you are right.
I like the repetition of the word remember. It creates a nice rhythm.
Good luck in the contest.

A very well-written poem about human behavior and the lessons we can learn from wild animals to change our wild behavior into a more controlled and acceptable manner.

Dear Dolly, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Yes, Man has much to answer for with his supposed stewardship of the Earth and its creatures sadly abused. and forsaken. We will pay a heavy price for the neglect and misuse of the Earth's resources one day. Let us hope and pray it is a long time coming. cheers Cass
