Whew! I needed to have 100% focus and quiet to read this to myself out loud and really hear the message. I knew it was something special the second I saw the title. I knew it had an ethereal quality before I even started to read the context. I have been looking for a way to properly thank you for writing "Is It Possible To Stop Worrying". This six star review doesn't come close to expressing how important this work is and shall be for me in the future. I went from cracking up at your other story to sobbing uncontrollably during the parts of this work. Thank you so much for continuing to contribute to Fan Story! Amazed and deeply touched Fonda

Thanks for the kind words and the generous six.

No kidding! Wow! Well, this collection of biblical references and other quotations amasses a strong argument against worrying. Aside from the Good Book citations, the one from Corry Ten Boom was spot on:
"Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow,
it empties today of its strength."
Terrific hip pocket class on borrowing trouble.

Corry Tem Boom was a Dutch Christion thrown into a concentration camp by the Nazis for hiding Jews. Thanks for the six.

It would seem that there is an almost endless supply of things to worry about.- edit suggestion
It would seem there is almost an endless supply of worrisome options.
No one ever went to bed worrying over a problem (to find) his or her restless night had done anything to (resolve) it. Sometimes we (awake) (to find) our problem has gone away or solved itself, but (this is) not due to our worry.
If we(were to be) honest with ourselves(,) (we'd) have to admit many of the things we worry about exist only (within) our imagination.
Even when everything was going well(,) they were worried that it wouldn't last
Someone (once) said(,) "As the years went by(,) I gradually discovered that ninety-nine percent of the things I worried about never happened.
Insurance companies make millions of dollars each year (due to the) tendency people exhibit worrying about things that rarely happen.
The truth of the matter is(,) anxiety and worry(,) the tension it causes(,) not only hinders some recoveries(,) but (it's) actually the (root) of many illnesses.
Worry destroys our confidence(.) (Worry) quenches our spirit, filling our minds with thoughts of gloom and despair.
The lilies of the field and the fowls of the air don't worry and yet(,) God looks after them.
A friend of mine(found this) point driven home one day as he watched his children playing.
He had just lost his job(,) and (was letting his worries) and doubts (overcome him).
He spent most of the morning worrying over how he was going to pay the bills(,) put food on the table(,) and so forth(.) (It was then) he noticed his two little girls playing a game together(,) seemingly without a care in the world.
Let's not accuse our heavenly Father of being an unkind(,) or an uncaring father.
(His actions are) as if he has no recourse(,) but (has been left to his own) reasoning.
A minister, huh? Who knew? Is this one of your sermons? What an interesting read. I found it chock full of pearls of useful and correct wisdom! Fluid in pace and commentary.
I made some edits, of course, you knew I would. Just suggestions and a few comma revisions. What a powerful work of writing, Tom. Probably one of my favorites...next to the alligator saga :)
Until next installment,
Janelle

This certainly didn't pass me over. For one thing, it is an unusually long chapter by your standards - I love long chapters; they give me adequate information for a better understanding of the story to review.
Secondly this excellent piece was a total surprise (positive) in the variations of topics that it touched on.

Very good advise. Worry is a terrible thing. I worried so much as a kid, far more then I do now. Of course I had a disordered I didn't know I had and meds have helped greatly. As a Christian I also try to trust the Lord with more, though being human it is still hard not to worry at times, I do trust the Lord is always in control. Do you still live in FL?

I use to worry a lot until I found Christ, now (with the help of Lexapro) I turn everything over to God. You essay is very encouraging. Don and Vicki.

Well, where is a six when I need one? This is my all time favorite! You have wonderful, encouraging stuff packed into your article. Thank you so much for this! Worry does suck the joy out of everything. My day goes south the minute I am sucked into worry. Very refreshing, Mr. Bowling!
All my best,
Sally

Thomas! You were a pastor for 6 years! Wow! Now I have to change my image of you completely. What a drag! Lol!
Truly, I agree with most of your arguments. You come at them from a Christian viewpoint and I believe the same way from listening to Eckhart Tolle who teaches present moment awareness. The same line of truth is present in all religions, but it has become overlaid with rituals and beliefs. There is no worry in the present moment.
The "Worry is heathenish" chapter was less inspiring to me. Teaching a little guilt is part of all religions also. LOL! The main reason why I no longer attend church. Still... you have me convinced that worrying is absurd. We just go about it in a different way. A fascinating read.

Such wonderful thoughts in this, and the article is full of encouragement. Excellent format in the way you headlined your key points about worry. Good points about worrying being useless and harmful to your health. People can lose sleep with all their worrying. I'm one who does that. I also like your use of quotations and the poem at the end to support your points. I especially like the one about "You don't get ulcers from what you eat, you get ulcers from what eats you." When people have worries, that means they take need to take action. You can't wait for someone or something to solve your problem. Wish I had a six for this, but mine are all gone. judi

Good morning, Pastor Thomas
I hope the original review went through. After I book cased your post, the review was gone. So to recap. A virtual six. Excellent expose's on the definition and meaning of the word 'worry'. The myriad of examples and POV's were fantastic. Worry is the one emotion that disproportionately affects us more than all emotions combined, often leading to depression and a sense of hopelessness. Well done!
Take care and stay safe,
Ray
