You have come up with a great way to spin off from the main topic. Some of it is a metaphor for these times. There certainly are classes of groups, some with privilege and some with none. There are the warring nations. The character in the story sounds as if they are floundering as are we. There are the haters and those who are all accepting. It good to see that the reader is invited to see that the character Frankie recognized that we can be attracted to anyone. Love is love. Love does not choose, it happens. Well written. I am voting for this.

Heinlien's Starship Troopers was the first time I read the idea that the right to vote should be earned, and only those with an honorable discharge should have that right. But of course the clever girl with all the training will have needs, too...interesting spin on that prompt...

"Okay, it was admittedly necessary given that two other races had tried to conquer Earth in those decades - both having been invited, it seems, by some Voyager spaceship sent out in the middle of the twentieth century."
drags the story.
This story has the potential to say a lot about preconceived biases.
It ends with a nice hook, that allows the reader to imagine a conclusion.

I liked your story. You took the character of the elite guard which is supposed to be bad ass and showed she had a vulnerable side too without saying it outright but still bring it across to your reader.

A very strong flash fiction that has the twist at the end. It is amazing how many people do not vote, less than fifty percent of the people voted and It seems like everyone is so unhappy.
