This is a life lesson about how cautious you have to be around money, no matter the context. However, I didn't find the story to be very engaging. I think it would have helped if some of the details had been streamlined. Of course, the plot would still be lackluster in comparison with the famous white collar crimes that we're used to reading about.

Well, since I have not been involved in any notorious "white collar" crimes or any other types of criminal behavior, this is as interesting (or NOT) as it gets.

I was just comparing your work to other non-fiction works. Didn't mean to offend.

I believe memories are all we have when we get older (of our kids I mean). They grow up fast. I loved your story. You did a wonderful job telling it and I enjoyed reading it. Good Luck in the Contest!

Thank you for reviewing this piece and your appreciated comments regarding it. It's so true that, with the passage of time, we are inevitably left with memories of our children from their every so brief childhoods.

What a heartwrenching story! But also heartwarming in that the people who mattered the most stood by you. What courage you had to face those women AND be honest with your son about the situation. I salute you!

Thank you, Angie, for your review and supportive comments.

Yes, that was one of the most difficult times for me, but I'm glad I decided to stick it out. In the end, it was a good lesson for my son and that's what counted for me. Having the other mom there to back me up was also a great help.

This work has reached the exceptional level

A well-written account of how the mother handled what had to have been difficult to work through. The writer set the stage telling why she was involved. Her descriptive narration gave us the setting inside the truck, followed by the usual procedure for handling the cash. Writing it as a chronological record of the event made it easy to follow. I found this a compelling read. I liked it that she wrote about telling her son knew what had happened and what she had done about it. An excellent essay with lessons for everyone reading it. (I, too, have worked Little League snack wagons. I would be honored to know the author.)

Thanks Jaye, for your review and comments and your most generous six stars.

For the most part I really loved baseball season, as it gave me quality time with my son. They were good years with a lot of happy memories overall.

I have four sons. Three of them played baseball. At three years apart in age, they played in three different leagues. My husband managed and/or coached on all the teams every year. We lived at the ball park. It was a blast. The one who didn't play was just a year behind the oldest. Since he didn't play, he got a job running the Little League snack bar. He ended up working in the food industry. Strictly a family affair.

I definitely commend you for your honesty and dedication to standing up for the truth. Your courage and commitment is an amazing testament to young and old alike. Telling your child about this is a true testament to being a mother and teaches a wonderful life lesson. I enjoyed reading this because it can restore faith in the human spirit on your part and reminds me that honesty is not inherently human. Your words were chosen perfectly. Thank you for sharing.

You did aa great job with the contest prompt, Mystery Author. Your story is well told and makes many valuable teaching points. I am glad you did not give in and stood up for your self at the same time setting an example for your son. Good job and best wishes. Jan

    Thank you Jan,
It was tough going at the time, but I had a supportive group of women I worked with that knew I didn't do anything wrong. By the end of the season I believe everyone there felt as they did. I think, on the positive side, it taught my son a good life lesson.

Don't worry I served the cricket club I played with, when younger, I was both a volunteer in the club canteen and club treasurer, so I lknow what you're talking about, fortunately we never had any shady goings on, but there was always a cloud round about. Well done, but there are always suspicions concerning money. Well done fo standing your ground. Blessings, Roy

I have to say, it left me with a sense of not wanting to volunteer in the future. In these leagues, there is usually only a handful of parents that volunteer on a regular basis. Up until this point I consistently volunteered and I was called upon to do more and more each season. After this incident, I did continue to volunteer, but only for my son's team needs and not for the entire league. It shook my faith and trust in others quite a bit. I just could not fathom that parents would do something so dishonest and for a very small amount of money. They were taking away from the very league their kids played in.

Thank you for reviewing this piece and for sharing your experiences, as well.

Yes, it's normal for humankind to throw all the work on the shoulders of few. Don't disallusioned, I've learnt not to judge, but serve as one is moved, serving is better than being served. Well done blessjngs, Roy
