Yes, preparing to apologize takes courage and a deep sigh, and hopefully, the
result is one that leaves you lighthearted. Thank you for your poem. Good job.

I voted for you my friend because you are so right.... "with a lightened heart "...that's the first feeling one has when truely they are sorry for something they did or said and want to make amends...in their future behaviour , actions towards the person they offended or hurt .
A" sorry" said without conviction doesn't take that weight of guilty off your heart nor does it leave you ......with a lightened heart...
If you really mean it ..then your heart does feel relief and it also makes it easier for the person later ,through their actions, to demostrate they meant it.

Exactly, a mumbled "sorry" is meaningless. Thanks for the review, cheers j

I enjoyed your apology poem, Mystery Author. You handled the prompt well. I like the picture paired with your simple, but true, approach to an apology.
I believe the first line has 6 syllables due to the word lightened. But if I'm wrong, please forgive.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

Thanks for review and advice. Lightened has two syllables they say. A simple apology can erase years of resentment with just a few heartfelt words. I like that. Cheers, j

Yes this 5-7-5 format works well here with the theme of Apology - the gestures indicating an onerous task'deep sight' yet with the conviction that it is the correct course of action
