Lovely! I can't believe we're meant for those things either - sadness, misery. I much prefer to think we're meant for the happiness in your second stanza. This is such a pretty read, a wonderful rhythm, terrific rhyme. A hopeful, uplifting end to this poem! I nice entry into the I Can't contest!

I love that you have taken this challenge and address the sad portions of life, but then your "I Can't" is really more of a positive spin on all we have to be thankful and happy for. Well written and a joy to read. Good luck in the contest.

Hello Yvonne!
An uplifting and beautifully crafted "I Can't" poem. I, too, cannot believe in pessimism, or in looking at the glass as if it is half full. The last two lines of your well-crafted poem speaks volumes:
A baby's laugh, an old friend met, an unexpected smile
exemplify the simple things that make a day worthwhile.

In spite of all the challenges the present day brings, I still look forward to each new day...

Thank you for sharing!

Good for you, Diane. Too much gloom and doom. It's so much nicer to see the happy things, even if they are little and simple. Thank you for reviewing this. I think we are kindred spirits.

Stunning picture to compliment your lovely poem. We do have misery all around us but if we take the time, we can find those little things that make our lives worthwhile.

Very nicely done.

Cheers, Damommy;
> At first I was on the bold dream of someone complaining about life, when I first read your or start of your poem, but then it slowly involved and evolved into a higher consciousness and a state of being inspired.
>Good internal external writing and I wasn't really tuned into the rhythm is much I just sit back and enjoy the flavor of your writing and conscientious conceptual theme which spoke to me.
> Good luck in the contest and as I viewed everyone else's in the contest I'll be sure to remember this one.
> Take care and have a good one.

PS: I'm not on the committee I just vote on all the prompts.

Oh, my dear, if ever there was a way to illustrate that contest title's ineffectiveness, this has to be the perfect example, with layer upon layer of meaning. Life really is all about perspective, as your brilliantly rhymed and metered poem shows so beautifully.

Best of luck in the booth with this jewel! Have my last six this week!

Heptameter sextets, something a wee bit different, and I'll bet the prompt author was fishing for pathetic wails of ineffectiveness...I for one like your approach better. Excellent post.

Thank you. I hope it doesn't get ignored if they expected to get doom and gloom. That just isn't me. I appreciate your time and comments so much.

This is excellent, Yvonne. We have to be open to recognize and appreciate the joyousness of living and not dwell on the negative. So many people do. A positive well-written poem that is refreshing. Marilyn

Thank you, Marilyn. I think it's so much easier that way. It takes a lot of effort to be depressed and gloomy.

Oh, damommy, I absolutely love this write....had no idea there was even a contest until I had finished reading your work, but I cannot tell how impactful this was to me as a reader! I'm sure it is the current climate in which we all find ourselves, but this was such a bright light and reassurance that those of us who try to look on the bright side aren't alone....okay, so some may say we're jousting with windmills, but it's good to know it's not a lonely battle!! :) :)
Your meter and your rhythm is lovely and truly carries your message with impact and zeal -- thank you so very much for sharing and good luck in the contest! :) :)

What a wonderful review. No, you're not alone. There are several on here that feel the same way. It's too taxing to be gloomy. Even if one doesn't feel like it, putting a smile on one's face makes a big difference in how they feel.

Your poem started out with little hope in a life filled with despair. It ends with a different attitude and outlook. The hope that was lost is found and everything is good in the world.

That's what I think, anyway. There's so many wonderful things to focus on rather than the bad things. There's some little miracle, some little thing every day that makes life wonderful. Thank you for reviewing.
