It is sad parents ambition for their kids is the shallow trappings of achievement and not rich valuable lessons of life that will led to the child's fulfillment and satisfaction with their lives.. Rickie

Thank you so much for your encouraging words, Rickie -- semi-retired now so pressure's not there, but it truly was my 'door' to begin writing: had to create some worlds and realities that felt comfortable and made me smile....I do so very much love my students!! :) :) Wouldn't trade any of them ... even the ones that try my patience now and again ... I tend to look at them as being the ones who will probably be leaders one day!! :) :) Many thanx for stopping by and have a lovely evening of cricket-led insect choruses! ;) :)

I do not envy you having this constant battle that is fought only (as you point out) on the surface and never about the integrity of the learning... Thanks for all that you do every day. yours, diana

Love this poem! My parents are both teachers, so I know well how jaded a person can become in that profession over the years. There are so many issues with our education system that need to be resolved in the future.

I think somebody said, actually, "a writer writes" "a teacher teaches" a preacher preachers. Nothing profound about me, but you're right, I think if we don't respond to our calling, we waste a little. Well done, beautifully written, I'm marriage to a retired teacher, guess what she stil does? She teaches! So well done, smooth, articulate, in abcb quatrains, well done, blessings, Roy

I loved this poem. The transition from "a parent's goal" to "preserving" one's "sanity" seems to be natural and guided by a greater wisdom.

What a joy to read your thank-you note. We don't have cricket-led choruses here but I do remember hearing them back in my childhood.
