Exactly! Seventeen syllables is very restrictive. If you need a page and a half of author notes to explain your 5-7-5 then maybe you've missed the whole concept of CONDENSED BRILLANCE. Seventeen syllables is not for the faint hearted. Or the dolts who know how to count to seventeen. These contests are to glom onto those finite minds who get it. Like you poet. Hail to the finger tappers with vision! Well done.

Exactly! Seventeen syllables is very restrictive. If you need a page and a half of author notes to explain your 5-7-5 then maybe you've missed the whole concept of CONDENSED BRILLANCE. I teach four year olds and explaining to the very young is a whole lot less frustrating than explaining to the very obtuse....but you wrote acute poem...see what I did there? It all depends on your angle

Lol. I agree. When it's a 5-7-5 contest, the entry should make sense within those 17 syllables. If author notes are required to explain what the piece means, it should have been written for a different, longer contest. Thank you for the great review, kiwi J. Thank you for the great review, Jan. I read one just the other day that didn't make a lick of sense. The author notes explained the piece but I'm one that rarely reads the author notes in a 5-7-5 contest. Your 17 syllables should say it all, lol. I really appreciate the gracious stars, stars, Jan.
