I'm really impressed with you both in your willingness to be adventurous and courageous with this new profession! I had to laugh at the cow pies setting off the equipment's alarms. That connects this chapter to the previous one. Lol. Thank you for teaching us about this very important job.

Another popular job for retirees are seasonal workers at national parks but these days, with the lockdown, I bet these have gone away.

I am so glad that this chapter made you laugh, thank you so much for reviewing. Yeppers, until the lockdown goes away the national parks are off limits. Apparently the gate guarding is picking back up.

Thank you for the story of Jim. I appreciate the campground wisdom, as people don't always think of the importance of medical and fire help until they are far removed from it. I was a realtor for many years and people don't think about this important fact when considering a home in the country. It lost me a few sales, but I always made sure I pointed out a fact that was important to me. I enjoyed your unique article. I hope to see more of your writing. Kindest regards to you and yours, Sally

Thank you so much for reading, reviewing and your kind, considerate comments. I think I am seeing a trend, once people start raising children they see the wisdom of knowing the bits and pieces of information. I am trying to do this as if it were a blog- scattered but informative, so there will be more (smile).

I find your story of the gas checker fascinating, Alie. Here in Australia, we do things a tad differently, I think, Here in Queensland the only gas is bottled. For B.B.Q's and gas burners in winter, mainly. We don't have natural gas up here. However 'down South' where my son lives they do have natural gas piped to every house. I don't know if anyone goes from house to house checking gas-lines I actually had never heard about this until we started writing each other. The 'kids' are in Nepal at the moment on a photography holiday. We are fine up here, Love U Anne.

Wow, that is so interesting about how the country is split for what has piped in gas and what isn't, Anne. Thanks so much for reading, reviewing and your kind comments. Luv Alie

Well, up here in semi-tropical we don't really get snow. Melbourne and Tasmania do. I'm not sure about the other States only those two. I love your stories you show me countries I have only read about. Thank you so much. Love U Anne.

I love your stories Anne because through your writing I get to see Australia, so I guess we compliment each other. I bet you didn't know that Canada -although stretched out in width is just a bit bigger than Australia and the USA if one excluded Alaska and Hawaii is just a big bigger than Australia. I think we tend to misjudge areas we haven't seen. Perhaps I shall do one for the times I went to England, Jamaica and up north where the snow stays almost all year, we shall see.

You talk about Jim and write interesting facts about his job and later about the camping grounds. But what about you during this time? Were you bored? Did you take up hobbies?
Are there places in here where you can insert dialogue?

Thanks for reading, reviewing and your kind comments and questions. I was trying to do this along the idea of a blog, but you raised some good questions. Bored- nope, hobbies- yep, and I will get to them. I like the idea of dialogue, will think on it.

Nice writing, Alie. Interesting and well detailed. Amazing that there are independent companies who provide this service. I also liked the information on campgrounds. I will never make use of it, but good advice for those to do. Marilyn

Thank you Marilyn for reading, reviewing and your kind comments. Hey even though you may not use the campgrounds you may share it with someone in need (smile).

Oh, I agree. I love to hear about that stuff. Who knows, in the future I may be taking advantage of travel in that fashion. I do like that lifestyle.

I see that this is listed as fiction, but it reads like a true story. Surveying sounds like a great job for those who love the outdoors. Like so many other careers, this will become obselete as technology takes over.

So true Phyllis, so true. Thank you for reading and reviewing and for your kind comments. I will have to change it from fiction to whatever since it is a true story, thanks for catching that.

Good chapter about My Life except... is it fiction? I could probably write that, but I would soar the skies and scope the ground with my X-Ray vision, giving the gas man a chance to relax. :) You posted this under General Fiction Alie. It is good to know a little about Mississippi. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for reading, reviewing and your kind comments. Hey I am glad you learned a little about Mississippi (other than spelling it lol). Someone else told me it was posted as fiction so I will go in and change it shortly. Thanks for catching that.

I love the straightforward prose of this chapter, it really captures the narrator's spirit. I never knew surveying was so interesting. :) Learning is really the best part of reading!

The few things of interest in Mississppi made me chuckle.

A fun morning read, thanks for posting!

Sounds like one needs to be footloose and fancy-free to work for the company. Thanks on the tip for camping in the area around there too.

One of the things about a travelog is the tips for the traveller. This has several. A good idea. A couple of 'nits' that need addressing:

'...all of which (is) *are* inspected...' Subject/verb agreement. 'All' implies a plural.

'...or more economically for you ...' In this 'economical', the adjective rather than 'economically' the adverb. Or you could say '... it would be more sound, economically for you...

As an ex campervan owner, I found this a great article/story.
