I just came upon this by chance. Wow! You have really outdone yourself, Yevette. One word: Exquisite. Not only are you a brilliant physicist but you have such a wonderful creative sense. Really enjoyed this one.

Oh, Shanbreen, you have just made my week -- thank you so very much for that wonderful review and for those remarkable, humbling stars! :) ;) It really was a childhood fantasy of mine from the moment I read my first fantasy fiction works at the library!! :) :) And here's an older adult's true confession: I didn't ever enjoy the Cinderella and Snow White Disney stories...in my dreams, I was always the conquering hero - the knight that saves the kingdom, the fighter pilot that flies in and blows the ship....when Star Wars came out, I was in the X-wing that blew the Death Star!! :) :) So, here's to fun and making that fun fit into 50 words! :) ;) May today be the start of a wonderful week ahead filled with more fantasies than your writer's fingers can keep up with!! :) :) Yvette

What a hard assignment! 50 words? wow.
You did a great job. It's a very unique poem because of the nice turn at the end. Great imagery with the hair.
Thanks for sharing!

Quite a contemporary theme here---girls outdoing the boys/men. Clever denouement, tho. Enjoyed reading it and it didn't take long. Lol.

I love it! What a fun fifty word flash fiction that tells so much with so few words! Perfectly written, excellent choice of artwork. Well done! Good luck in the contest!

I love it! Thanks, you have a good week too! You'd probably like Anne McAffery's Dragonriders of Pern books. I loved them 30+ yrs ago when they came out.

They were okay...kinda lost interest after the first few...I really was more 'hard core' sci-fi like Clarke and Heinlein and Asimov. Of course, I grew up in a really small town with a really small library (where they knew me as a regular!!) so, the book selection was limited by, I'm sure, budgets and such. I love all of the wonderful fantasy and sci-fi writes now from the battle-hardened space troopers to the flighty dragons and cantankerous riders! :) :) Have a wonderful day! :) Yvette

I don't think in ten years I've ever given a six star rating to a 50-word piece of flash fiction. Impressive beginning--ESPECIALLY--and the ending gave way to profound thought. Can we separate a person from a quality, sometimes surprising ourselves?

I remember someone said something along the lines of...courage isn't fearless, it comes when a man is frightened, but does the right thing anyway.

Great entry.

I like the twist at the end here! It was also a childhood dream of mine to be a knight! I also like how she already killed the dragon! Good luck with contest!

Yeah, had to put the dragon head in there, Mackenzie -- the deed had to be proven done! :) ;) And this really was a childhood fantasy of mine from the moment I read my first fantasy fiction works at the library!! :) :) Yvette [can sign now that the contest's through]

Good job, Mystery Author, with your little fiction story. You gave readers much info in a small space. I wasn't expecting the ending. I did like it. Best wishes. Jan

A woman's work is never done it seems here...

Good little piece

"A man's courage did not save our kingdom," armor-clad hands removed the helmet, "It was saved by me." - technically, the second piece of the dialogue here should start with a lower case. the previous piece of dialogue and speech tag are not closed off so it is continuing dialogue. Either that or close off the sentence following the tag.

Thanx for the read and review -- I guess I had seen it as two independent clauses and, thus, the second part being a second sentence needed a capital letter. Shot down by dialogue rules once again. Thank you for taking the time, G. Blessings! :)

It's nice to know that even way back in medieval times anything a man could do a woman could do better.
The slain dragon must've been a male. Males of all species are distracted by a pretty face.
Had it been a female dragon with a nest of young to protect, the outcome might have been quite different.
