Wow...that so many died at once. Unreal. Then his son. Just heartbreaking. But it is so relieving to know...that he knows...he never walks alone. He may question, and miss them, but if he knew how lovely Heaven was, he wouldn't grieve their going. Beautiful.
Blessings...

Your poem, Jo, is poignant. I can understand your feelings the way you described them. Your lines flow smoothly with a true, but sad, topic. The last 2 verses offer needed hope and guidance. It is a testament to your faith. Good job with your contest entry. Best wishes. Jan

This is an excellent faith based poem that reminds us God is with us in all trials. Your use of words capture the loss of so many family members but shows how faith can help us along.

A gut level and stark honesty and bout the trials and tribulations that you have suffered --- of which they are many, and profound in their depth and breadth of pain that you have endured... just to have survived that, and be left standing on your feet, is success in and of itself... it shows someone who is inherently strong and perseveres. Just when we think we can't go on any longer, or take another fruitless and aimless step, somehow the ray of sunshine/light embraces us... God is the ultimate healer, and the ultimate Guardian... I love your line "...Am I being punished for some unknown sin?..." because it hits upon a theme that I visit over and over again... I have done things in my past of which I am ashamed.. and I have hurt people... and so, I feel sometimes when there is an onslaught of doom and gloom, mistakes and misfortune, I drift back to my past.. and wonder if it is 'karma.' I still struggle with this and don't know the answer... but thank you for sharing this poem about despite your struggles, pain, loss, and having life beat you up sometimes, you are a 'fighter', you get up, dust yourself off, and with God as your 'coach', you get back in the game!!

Hello!
I so appreciate the essence and message of your Faith poem. If I may make a suggestion, however, it would be to streamline the first two stanzas, not necessarily regarding information, but formatting. If you look closely at stanzas 3 - 9, they are shorter. To streamline stanzas 1 and 2 would give your poem a more balanced look. Again, a powerful message of resilience, faith and perseverance.

Thank you!

Thank you, Diane, for reviewing my poem. I thought of the lines being too long, too. Maybe, I can go back and figure out how to say the same thing only shorter.

Jo,

Wow! I commend you on your courage and bravery to post such a heart-wrenching poem. You've so eloquently composed a touching and poignant poem describing a lifetime's lifetime of sorrow. If I had six stars this would get a 10.

May God continue to heal and bless you.

Eugene

You raise a lot of questions in the work. Some would tell you to focus on the happier events in your life and push aside the dark. I think your poem leads to a better solution but probably needs to expand on the issues of hope and faith.

The one truth of life is that we all start dying the moment we're born. What is important is what we do with that life before we die. The faith part starts slightly after death.

In my opinion, this spiritual write is moving in its emotional narration, and the free verse form adds dynamic resonance to the descriptions and concluding message. Its lyric rhythm is smooth in its movement and captures the reader in its story...
