This is a very sad tale and such events affect children into their adult years and can thwart happy futures for them. If parents are fighting like this it is better that they part as witnessing this everyday is unhealthy for the kids, a poignant and profound write, sweetly told with haunting results, love Dolly x

sad indeed, this is not just sad. it gut-wrenching, having to comfort a child who is going through something like this is painful..

This was a beautiful sad poem, with a good dose of reality. I could see this being very helpful to a child with a difficult family. I like how it was written from the child's perspective with the wisdom of a mature adult at the end. There is a very nice rhyme and rhythm to it as well.

This is a wonderful poem. But I am not sure that it fits the contest category as I don't think it is suitable for children to read. Good luck and Best wishes. Jen.

Comment from Gloria ....
Excellent story in a poem and written in good metre and fine rhyme. You perfectly captured the innocent questioning of a child from a dysfunctional home who knows what is going on, but no idea why.
A fine entry into the contest and I wish you much luck in the booth.

This has a wonderful message for children. If they understand that what happens between their parents is wrong, then the pattern can be broken. Well done. All the best, Ann Marie

The last lines of the stanzas say it all "That's just not OK", "and I just can't forgive", etc. All children deserved to be loved and deserve parents who will set good examples, and it's not OK when that doesn't happen. The brother-sister relationship in your poem and great photo remind me of "The Prince of Tides" - did you ever read that?
This is a wonderful commentary on a sad and all-too-common dynamic - I hope it wins.

This is both touching and tragic. Children always have to pay the price for their parent's ignorance. Hopefully, they will keep their promise and grow up to be better parents than her own were.
