You captured the classic moment so succinctly in this 5-7-5, with the reinforcing picture. I liked your framing your mono-verse rhyme with the apt title as well. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

Hello Loannalois
Yes, isn't it. My wife is a goldsmith and a large part of her business is making engagement rings - it is a rarity these days for the 'man' to design and present a surprise ring. It does still happen, but I think the modern approach is that if 'she' has to wear it for the rest of her days, she should at least be allowed some say in the design!
I think my wife suggests that if you wish to do the down-on-one-knee bit you should use a rubber tap washer: if you are rejected, you lose nothing, and if you are accepted, then you can deign the ring together... romance goes as practicality enters I suppose.
This is an accomplished piece, with meaning, narrative and rhyme all in a small space. It would be fitting that you do well in the contest with it.

I'll never forget the day my husband proposed to me. I thought I was getting my favorite coffee drink and lottery tickets. It's just something you'll never forget. If this is about you I hope he's the right person to make you feel like a queen all the days of your life.

Yes it is, grand indeed! A stunningly simple 5-7-5, who would have thought one could do that, but you did, and I'm envious! Good luck in the contest with this!

Nice little 5-7-5 poem that I'm sure will remind married couples of their proposal story and engagement. I am not married nor wish to be but I can still appreciate the beauty in having that connection with someone and the glory of marriage, being able to say you are someone's wife or husband. Left us on a cliffhanger too as we will never know if his partner said yes. Good luck for the contest.

99.9% of the answers are YES, but WHAT IF she says NO? I just think this should be pre-discussed! You did this in a lovely format. The words are thought-provoking and the photo is lovely. Great job with it. Good Luck and I hope to see more of your writing. These short little contests are not challenging us enough! :)

This is very cute. And has more depth than at first glance. I love how there is no definitive response to the proposal. The read is left wondering whether the proposal was accepted or if the poem is just a description of what went down. Excellent. Hugh
