Hi Craig. Congratulations on winning the contest. Your poem asks an intriguing question. A well worded entry and well thought out, too. I like the image accompanying your poem. Marilyn

I suspect someone somewhere could put together a doctoral thesis on this little six word poetic question! I admit, I shook my head when I saw this contest...wondering if perhaps a ONE WORD poetry contest would be next! (Half joking)---

HOWEVER--you have reminded me that a dedicated writer can indeed make a powerful statement with the most limited of words.

Congratulations on your first place win!

I am remiss. I am not on site every day and so I do not get to congratulate the winners consistently...this poem just really expanded the limitations of word count and made me think! (Great!)

An interesting question, Craig, I can only answer by saying this.
Creations pinnacle...man's efforts to remain higher than high, while using all of nature's gifts to their benefit...in short...stepping on those with less, like one would do a bug...while that bug, also always the soil to stay fertile and providing exactly what those people that want to remain higher than higher wish to have...sadly though the lives of those bugs are often shortened by the overuse of their existence..

Now, that might make sense to me, but it might not to you...lol
the picture is well chosen...thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, I had to think for a moment, and still I might not have come up with answer to your question that's understandable...
All the best!...Congratulations on the win!

Warmly,
Victoria

Thanks so much, Victoria. I do very much enjoy logging in and seeing your name in the review list, and I appreciate your kind comments for this piece. Yes, I think you've expressed the idea well. The thing that's both amusing and sad is that we fail to understand that we, too, are bugs :)

Very true this may have only been a few words but a few that spoke volumes - parasites

Great job, CD on a very difficult question. We are supposed to be the pinnacle, but oftentimes we become the parasites with a very apathetic attitude. Great job!

You pose an interesting question, Craig. I find myself going back and forth on this one, but for the most part seem to fall on the side of us being parasites. We seem not to be able to exist in harmony with the natural world - at least not our "advanced" civilizations. Best one of these I've read so far!
