First, Congratulations for the big win! It is certainly understandable. Your story is riveting and smoothly told, full of vivid description and positive emotion. Your attitude is truly remarkable. Everything about this story is impressive. I loved how you told it. No wonder it is wearing a blue ribbon! I'm glad I finally found it. (I wish I didn't miss so many great posts, but I have not been here as much as I'd like lately.)

What a gracious and heartfelt review, Adonna!
Thank you so very much!
I have not been here as much lately, either. Hoping the cooler months will find me inside and writing. But for now, I am relishing the gardens and being outside as much as possible...
Thank you again for your exceptional rating and complimentary review!
Fondly,
diane

Beautiful writing describing a horrific storm that devastated property and animal habitats as well as damage to your home. I can relate to mother nature's storms because of a tornado that hit back in the 1990's. We had never experienced a tornado in central N.C. So this was quite an unexpected occurrence. I'm happy to hear of the restored beauty that has been restored and wish you could have somehow given us a restoration phot for it sounds absolutely vibrant and pastoral! Great win, Mrs. KT!

Aw, Ginny!
Thank you ever so much for your excellent rating and thoughtful review!
I just signed up for the new club that is being offered to help writers use graphics/photographs in Advanced Editor. Once I figure out how to add photographs beneath my writing, I will post a photograph of our present-day yard! It's my haven, and it truly is amazing how in three years' time, the land is once again flourishing!
Thank you again!

Hello Diane,
What an incredible story of destruction and resilience.
Nature is stunning in both its power, beauty and persistence.
It is sometimes amazing how destruction can also lead to new vistas of beauty.
We had a different situation last winter as three heavy march snowstorms
downed trees, branches, and power lines. My neighbors had trees fall on their house
and some had no power for seven to ten days.
Where the tree fell
I see the stars
The main thing, of course, is that you all survived uninjured.
Your story could be published.
Best wishes to you and in the contest
Robert

Mother Nature is pretty powerful, Your story proves that. Although you suffered a lot, it sounds like you got a lot back in return. For whatever reason, the change has done you good in the end. Thank you for sharing your story.

I am blown away by the intelligence of this piece and the amount of labor that went in to reviving your property. You are such a naturalist. You should be writing for Gardening journals. You make nature very interesting to read about. Few people can do that.
My favorite part of your story is the survival of your Chinese Dogwood. I love how it was determined not to die, and you could not chop it down. And I am fond of your sister-in-law. She sounds like a great person to have in the family.
I am sorry for your losses, but your open vistas do sound appealing. I like how you have accepted your losses and made the most of matters. That comes across clearly in the piece and is very inspirational.
Thank you for sharing your story. I've always wanted to go to Michigan. You make it sound lovely.

Such a beautifully penned piece that highlights not only the powerful hand of nature but also the resilient and dynamic 'stuff' of humanity! :) The country might seem to be crazy right now, but, here in our communities and small towns, we are still strong! :) :)
Thank you for sharing that much needed reminder today! :)

Hi, Diane,
To look at your yard now, one would never know this horrific storm had so recently visited your place and caused this destruction. Your devotion to your yard, Mother Nature and your willingness to learn the lessons she sets before us.

Hello Patty,
Thank you!
The front of our yard did not sustain as much damage, and that is what I photograph along with the newly refurbished deck...
Glad you enjoyed!

How interesting and what a valuable life lesson was wrapped up within this display of wrath from Mother Nature -'The deafening sound of the wind or the trees breaking as they fell' creates such s sense of atmosphere

I enjoyed this story, Diane. It speaks to the endurance of both man and plants and their will to survive and thrive.
And in June of 2016, my husband, daughter, and son in law helped me to bring it home. --I believe it's son-in-law.
Take care,
Russell
