You have my vote. Yours is one of the few submissions that did not use pedestrian horror words. And the title is romantic and ominous. Well done !! Rich red to be shared :))

Thank you for your review, Praveen - I am very appreciative that you took the time to read and analyze (and seemed to enjoy!) my work! :) :) This one was wa-a-a-a-ay out of my "comfort zone" as horror is definitely not my genre of choice; however, since it is the one that I tend to avoid, I made myself enter the contest (once you press that button your pocketbook is committed, so to speak -lol).....at that point, I knew my thrifty side wouldn't let me NOT enter (cuz it would've been a waste of the entry fee - can't have that!) :) :) :) Thanx again for those wonderful stars and may you have an awesome week ahead filled with your choice of any fantastical beasts and the excitement they bring to your world (if you let them!)! :) :) :)

Yikes!
By the looks of the chalice in your accompanying photo, this event looks quite the formal affair, Anonymous Poet.
A good red whine is the life's blood of any gourmet meal.
Your 5-7-5's syllabication is spot-on and is most definitely horror related.
Best wishes to you in the contest.

Wow -- okay, Dean, but I have to tell ya, I would prefer no whine with a full-bodied white! LOL! :) :) Thank you for your review, sir - I am very appreciative that you took the time to read and analyze (and seemed to enjoy!) my work! :) :) And to be perfectly honest, this one was wa-a-a-a-ay out of my "comfort zone" as horror is definitely not my genre of choice; however, since it is the one that I tend to avoid, I made myself enter the contest (once you press that button your pocketbook is committed, so to speak -lol).....at that point, I knew my thrifty side wouldn't let me NOT enter (cuz it would've been a waste of the entry fee - can't have that!) :) :) :) Thanx again for those wonderful stars and may you have an awesome week ahead filled with your choice of any fantastical beasts and the excitement they bring to your world (if you let them!)! :) :) :)

A vampire's banquet! Oo spooky! Without the picture, your poem still carries its own and conjures up a rather bloody scene.
good luck in the contest!
kind regards

Hi there.
I admire you for entering a contest that's out of your comfort zone as we often tend to stick with what we know. Trying new things helps to broaden our skills :)
I hope that you too have a great week.
kind regards

Hello Anon
Merlot?
Phew! What a rather grisly picture you paint in such a small space. Lots of colour - if I take 'wan' as grey, to 'ivory' to 'red' - a clever progression as is the sequence of past-tense line endings. I can see (read) that a lot of thought has gone into this and I wish you well in the contest: FS clearly has a fair number of repressed psychos - which should make the Annual Christmas party interesting, if not fun...
I wish you well with your writing
(I would normally finish off my post with a hearty 'cheers', but I will skip it in this instance I think)

Wow -- okay, Phill, but you could always break out the chardonnay or a Riesling and still 'Cheer'! LOL! :) :) Thank you for your review, sir - I am very appreciative that you took the time to read and analyze (and seemed to enjoy!) my work! :) :) To be honest, no repressed psycho here (or, at least not in the 'horror' sense -lol!) as this one was wa-a-a-a-ay out of my "comfort zone" as horror is definitely not my genre of choice; however, since it is the one that I tend to avoid, I made myself enter the contest (once you press that button your pocketbook is committed, so to speak :) :) ).....at that point, I knew my thrifty side wouldn't let me NOT enter (cuz it would've been a waste of the entry fee - can't have that!) :) :) :) Thanx again for those wonderful stars and may you have an awesome week ahead filled with your choice of any fantastical beasts and the excitement they bring to your world! :) :) :)

After reading this I think I'll pour myself a glass of red wine. This is very nicely written. It's short and to the point. You should do well in the contest with this entry.

Wow -- okay, Thomas, but only if it's real wine otherwise, I might get a bit worried about your placement of mirrors (or lack thereof around your residence! This is scary. From your title it was pushing the envelope so the reader knew the depths of the darkness they were walking into.
I think the photo is perfect for your words. A 5 7 5 style for this topic isnt an easy feat. I think you nailed it.

Chilling juxtaposition of 'wan' and 'ivory' against the rich redness of the blood in the silver chalice. The repetition of 'to be' in each line helps to bind the poem. Good luck in the contest. I'll drink to your health if you win!

I'm hoping that it is only a taste and not the final cup of rich red... again hoping this is only a pondering and not a desire. I see it is a Scare Me! 5-7-5 writing prompt. Okay got it... yours, diana

It was very well stated! I know how you feel I have trouble with love poems (go figure) so I need to make myself write a couple. yours, diana
Comment from Michael Steinert
I can relate to this poem as someone who has attempted suicide in the past. The imagery does convey a very real feeling as well as the image itself. Good luck in the contest!

I think your poem not only followed the "Scare me" prompt, but I also found it very sophisticated and definitely falls in the true horror genera. I wish you good luck in the contest.
