This is a very interesting and well written poem about the elephant. You used very good words and very nice picture to go with the words. I have never heard of that format before! Blessings, Teri

What a great poem to describe caring for our elephants! They are such magnificent animals. Definitely want to take good care of them. Would be so sorry to see them go extinct!

Hi Bill. Thank you for calling attention to the plight of the elephants. I have written about them as well. They are so smart and cooperate with each other and live in family groups protecting the young and the week. They are also the engineers building water holes for the other animals who would otherwise die from thirst. A great cause. Thank you for sharing

Hi there, Bill
Your majestic elephant carries the weight of the world on his shoulders as he marches about, slow across the African plains, awkward, massive, and oh so wonderful.
Humanity is not only destroying all of the wonders of this incredible planet, but it's destroying itself too :(
What the hell happened!!!
Get me off...
kind regards

Got my vote. I love these wonderful creatures; have paintings of them around the house. So far this is my favorite poem of yours. Elephants (and other wildlife) need help from us. As you know I'm writing about AI. Drones are being used to keep a watchful eye for poachers on the sanctuaries. Sure hope the drones help. Marilyn

Excellent tankadonk, or whatever you call it. It flows like a tanka, and you bring in rhyme effectively in your last two lines. A good thought. I think we're made more aware of the plight of these animals that have been hunted when read about the misdeeds of safari hunters run amok. There is not reason for people to want to be big game hunters. judi

I do care very much. I always have. Hopefully, someday poaching will be completely eradicated. Until then, we have to pray that the animals will be safe from them. If no one bought the products of poaching, it would stop. I think we need to focus on that part as well.
Very eye-catching with the eye photo. lol

Ooh, that eye though. Got me feeling like I'm on the spot. Gotta' tell the truth or burn. I would not want to incur the wrath of one so large. He is definitely big enough to be in charge. So I will confess, that I have not always done my best, to protect thow who are in need, so I will go right out and do a good deed.

Definitely poignant and eye-opening....looking forward to seeing this in the book as well ...always best to mix humor with serious to make sure neither gets lost. :) :) :) Your chosen metre hear is interesting in that it isn't hard to follow yet it makes the mind follow more closely than the more common rhythms....almost ensuring that the reader clearly understands your message without just "cruising through". :) :)
Thanx again for sharing!

Excellent message from the wise elephant's point of view. It's just incomprehensible why anyone would kill such a beautiful animal for the tusk. Hopefully, enough people will care and stop the massacre.
