Oh, I could NOT resist - your delightful (and wise) poem has inspired one from me, and actually, mine is humor, whereas yours is VERY good advice. I'd publish this in a heartbeat - it belongs in schools! :))

WOW!! Thank you so very much for those stars, Dawn!! :) :) You made my week!! This poem, I don't think, was as well received as others, and I was actually afraid I upset some folks.....even WITH the author note I added at the bottom. :) Although, I guess it could have been that it was just not all that well-written....I did just kinda got the idea when I read the "contest of the day" description and put it down pretty quickly. :) :) :) C'est la vie, non? Important thing is that it turned out great in the end because it was your inspiration for that really cute one this morning....so that will be it's achievement -- HOORAY!! :) :) :) It's be a joy conversing with you, ma'am, and I hope to continue the dialogue along the way.... blessings for the weekend! :) :) Yvette

A very well-written poem. Sometimes it is not plain laziness that a person cannot get to do everything they have to do. There are sometimes just too much important things to do and the less important must be put on the back burner for a while.

Yes -- you are so very correct, ma'am!! :) :) There are those times when there are not enough hours in a day! :) And I know I have said it often, but I do sincerely thank you for taking the time to review my work -- you are AWESOME! :) :)

I too have been flabbergasted by parents that let their kids do nothing....and when they grew up they did not know how to cook or clean or work or manage money...they stayed at home because they couldnt do anything else. One woman gave her 30 year old son an allowance..
Grrrrrr. My kids didn't have it so easy. They worked hard. And I am so proud of them...each bought their own vehicle..my 33 year old son still has the truck he got at 16. He does his own mechanics on it and it runs well. He repainted the grill so it looks brand new. My daughter had a retirement fund at 17. She wanted to be kind to her older self. My other daughter took care of the horses before school
Obviously your poem hit a nerve...My 4 year olds in class have to sweep the lunchroom and
Clean the tables...they put out their own mats for nap and put them back again. They earn things for the class by building letters on the floor. I do not allow an iPad ...but the parents love it
God bless...I loved your poem

Oh, Kiwi, you have NO idea -- I watched it all slowly change over the years I was a high school teacher.....makes you want to pull your hair out!! :) ;) :) I had to retire so I wouldn't go bald ..... or commit a crime of some kind! LOL! We joke, but it really is VERY disheartening on so very many levels....Thank you so very much for your review and for the sharing of a small part of yourself! :) Good to know that there are kindred spirits out there! Here's wishing a week of blossoms and bird song just for you! ;) ;) Yvette

This is the first of poems for this contest I have read to date. Sloth and pride do go hand in hand, but eek...I hope I don't enable my kiddos. I try to encourage them to be active participants in society, but it's so true...some employers just want cookie-cutter employee drones who don't think for themselves which does force some youngins into obscurity. Well penned piece. I like the image, too. It's perfect. The poem flowed well and the content was appropriately chosen. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.

Thanx (again!) for allotting some of your time to read, Janelle, and for the wonderful analysis -- it really means a lot when folks take the time to honestly review .... not very often, but I do so enjoy it when it does!! :) :) Thanx for those lovely stars and, like I said previously, have a GREAT week! :) :)

The poem, in my opinion, is more of an indictment on our Stewarts of society. During the voting season, strong proponents of "get out the vote for it counts" press people to get the poles. But, it appears the youth are the first of the casualties of our society. It hard to serve everyone equally.

An excellent entry in this deadly sin category of story my friend, I can never remember the specific deadly sins, (I thought all sin was deadly) but sloth is high, is gluttony another? (Christians may not drink or smoke, but boy can the eat) a beautifull entry in this concert, in articute, clever quatrains and abcb rhyming, an excellent entry in this contest, well done, good luck, blessjngs, Roy

Thank you so very much for your review, Roy, and I have to say that I really wasn't even intending to enter a contiest til I logged on today and saw the topic for today --- confession: I had to look up the seven sins because I could only remember six, and guess which one I had left off?! LOL :) :) Seriously, though, thanx for those wonderful stars and have a beautiful weekend of cool breezes and starry nights! Yvette :) :)

Well at least a small measure of pleasure can be taken from sloth, unlike envy. That said a very strong social commentary on the age of entitlement, coupled with a complex economy and an educational system that makes promises it cannot possibly keep.

Best wishes to you in the contest with this gem.

well, good for you. I think they'd rather protest - more fun.
You make a lot of good points, here, and express them well.
I do think, though, that this would be better as free verse rather than trying to rhyme because of the meter. I hope you don't mind my saying that. I like your thoughts.

It made me tired to read this poem. I feel like taking a nap. I wish I had the energy to get up and walk to the bedroom. This is great and should do well in the contest.
