My given regrets for your lost, tragic story detailing heart touching statements with resolved end. Very well expressed able to capture its reader. All in my opinion.

I'm not familiar with the Merle Haggard song, but I'm very much in tune with your romantic poetry. The story is well-told, while the poem flows along pleasingly.

Good luck in the contest!

Thank you, Don, for commenting on my poem and your good wishes for the contest. Oh, Merle Haggard, one of the greatest poets and songwriters of his time. As a poet, I urge anyone to look up some of the song lyrics he wrote. He was a lonely man even tho married 5 times. His songs are varied but I especially like his blues and country.

A very well-written heartfelt love poem. When we are young and in love we want to be close and intimate with one another. Sometimes life force one to go and the other stays behind with only memories in the mind.

This is so sweet and sad my dear. War is a terrible thing and wrecks more lives than we can count. This poem is very romantic and filled with love for a soldier who gave it all. Well done. Nancy

I know that song well, justjo66.
The Green Beret, right?
I'm not sure if this is your story or a story about someone you're very close to.
In any event, it is well written as well as sad.
Freedom is never free...
Take care, and have a happy 4th of July.

Dean, you are so right. Freedom is not free and many lives and blood has been spent on its cause. Thank you for reading and commenting on my work. I appreciate your input. Yes, it is a true story of my first husband and myself. He is gone now but the song "Silver Wings" always brings this memory back.

I feel the pain and emotion in your ode to your husband. It has a combination of dread, yet it is nice to know that he was able to serve his country and follow his dream. Your poem invokes a feeling of bittersweet triumph for an honorable man. Good luck!

This gave me cold chills. I have the image embedded in my brain as your words unfold a sad sweet story. I terrible shame and a brave sacrifice. I felt the waves of emotion in each stanza. Beautifully articulated well executed.

Thank you, J, for your kind comments on my very personal poem. So many young men died fighting this war and all our wars. Someday we will have NO MORE WAR.
