Oh my. Viet Nam was the war of my generation--I lost too many friends and when I visited "The Wall" years later it broke my heart to take rubbings of their names on a wall as I recalled their laughter, the life taken so soon, so young. Most moving poem... Very touching! Congrats on being in the winners circle with this one!

Very well written. Time always has a way of healing our scarred hearts but it doesn't shield us from our memories. I can look at your poem and say it is filled with sadness or I can look between the lines and image that there must have been some good times there, because you chose to remember these events.

Thanks, Cindy, for reviewing my poem. Yep, sad times and joy. Memories seem to appear sometimes without provocation.

This is sad and war has broken many young marriages through the ages, such powerful and poignant words here, tears welled at these words, love Dolly x

Good read, educational, interesting, emotional, good story line, creative way of thinking, creative use of words, symbol of wings to match, good colour, two
people in love having a dance, sad reflection of a loved one...a song in memory.

Good Luck!

Your words create a true longing for what once was--very poignant. Your lines flow well to tell that story. You are right how music can bring back memories both good & bad. This is a great poem about how 'things' were at the time of Viet Nam when so much was in turmoil. And after all these years the woman still loves her man. Good job & thanks for sharing. Best wishes. I am out of 6 stars, but this deserves far more anyway. This is absolutely beautiful. I love that song anyway, but THIS poem, just reached for my heart and knocked at it. Brought tears and THAT is what fantastic poetry does, right? Especially when one knows it is probably a true story. Touches heart, then mind, where it will stay in a compartment for some time. Truly great. Lovely tribute. Bless you.

Thank you, Wendy, for your sincere words. Yes, the poem is based on what really happened with my first husband and I. He is gone (his grave does have the wings embedded in his tombstone. He was so proud of them when he got them) now. I still think of him when I hear this song.

"Silver Wings", is an extremely well-written and deftly descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. You KEEP WRITING and I'll KEEP READING. I look forward to seeing your next post.

A solid six for this poignant memory! It brought a tear to my eye. So long go, yet neverending. We lost too many precious ones back then, and must never forget them. You have reminded us yet again. Thank you for that!
