Winter is beautiful, but it can be very harsh.47 total reviews

Sounds like Old Man Winter and Mother Nature are conspiring! The depiction of Winter does not miss a thing. It envelops and holds us, sometimes immobile, in its clutches and your snowdrop picture embellishes the words that form a crystal-like image in our minds. I only have five stars left!

I found your descriptions of the brutality of winter so inspiring, I had no trouble visualizing all you described. The color scheme and the artwork added to the beauty you created with your words. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future, and like you, I love spring so much more!

-Very nice artwork and presentation, Bob.
-I can see why you got Poem of the Month.
-This is written very well with
very effective imagery.
-The first line is extremely vivid, and
is followed by many others:
"He batters targets with fists of wind"
"His breath whips through barren branches"
-I like how you go from Old Man Winter
to the "splendor of spring" in the conclusion.

This is a lovely poem about winter. Composed using many good lines. Illustrated perfectly to accompany your words. Well described with word choices that set the scene and mood for the reader. Very nice indeed. Marilyn

A most interesting and telling poem you've written Bob! I somehow missed it when it came out, so I'm glad it was nominated for poem of the month, and I hope you win. I did not realize what a good poet you are! But, why not? You have shown in your stories you have great descriptive powers. This is extremely beautiful. I loved everything about it. MM

Congratulations for having your poem considered in the Poem of the Month competition. I admired your personification of winter and your vivid imagery, including the "crystal daggers" simile and "icy fingers" metaphor. The artwork you selected was perfect for this free verse. Well done and best wishes- Joan

Hi, Joan. How kind of you to be supportive of this poetry. I love the six stars. I never claimed to be a poet. In fact I was just taking a break while working on my new novel "Shadows of Sin" first chapter posted on here today. I don't think I am going to do very well against all those big gun poets in the competition. LOL Bless you, Joan. :) Bob

Thanks for letting me know about your new novel--continued success with new chapters. I appreciate your humility but consider you to be a talented poet as well as prose writer. Enjoy the remains of Sunday- Joan

Bless you, Joan. Bob

Hi, Bob
Great poem here. I love your use of strong, potent imagery as here:
'He batters targets with fists of wind...'
'... like dangling crystal daggers
downward icy fingers without aim.'
I see why you have won a fair number of poetry contests!
Have a great Memorial weekend, and enjoy the warm weather, my friend.
Hugs, Bev
