Ha! That's what Mantis gets for not being more specific. (LOL) Clever 5-7-5, Bill, and fun. Excellent alliteration for each line too - what more could anyone ask from a poem than to enjoy it? I mean... Really!

A bit chilling with the night picture and the waiting for death. Makes me think of the old movies always with the giant bugs.

"Mantis in moonlight" has a serenade-like quality. Mantis in moonlight--will he live through the night? Survival is on the guy's mind. This is perfect form for a 5-7-5, and the artwork is rather spooky-looking. It reflects the sinister thoughts in your poem, though. judi

Very good alliteration throughout. I like the use of 'prey' and 'pray' in the same sentence.

Nice image of mantis praying in the moonlight, waiting for dawn apparently.

Nice one with cool artwork! Great alliteration of m, p, and d words. And the internal rhyme of prays/prey/day gives this 5-7-5 a more musical element. Glad the mantis got his food!

A prayer for food when answered provides a bellyful of happiness. A prayer denied means your intended prey has found a place to run away and hide. Your belly becomes skinny because bites to eat you haven't had any.

This is a terrific 5-7-5, Bill. I love the juxtaposition in this in this little piece of poetry, as well as the internal alliteration. Nicely done. ~Kerry

Hello Bill,
Your 5/7/5 poetic offering is rather chilling, and yet, it is the law of nature! Syllabic count is correct, and your poem paints a vivid visual image. Thank you!

All three lines were captivating to where this little piece said so much and was so expressive, it had vivid imagery and just a plain enjoyable read, as always good work
