This is powerful stuff. I probably drink too much myself at times - maybe I should write my own list. Speaking of which, "It was icy when I ran into the church and knocked down the gutter." is a great line. I'm sure it really happened, but it's one of those things, when you read that, then the truth really rears it's head.
This line is another good one. I wasn't sure what you meant at first, but when I saw it again I got it completely:
"She nodded her head yes, without saying a word, relaxed and became a deadly sounding-board."
I like that she didn't say anything after you read her the list. What a smart person. A helpful mentor, I am sure.

Dear Dallas,
I know I have mentioned this to you before, but DAMN!!!!! I applaud your courage! Your writing is exceptional as it carries the reader from the very first sentence to the last on a roller-coaster of HONEST dialogue and emotions. But it is the honesty and forthrightness with which you deliver your message to the reader that is just gut-wrenching!
Thank YOU for sharing your journey with me...with all of us...

Thank you so much for the empowering review. If you evre know anyone who might benefit from the book, it can be ordered through most major book stores, amazon, or, it can be ordered through your library. Thank so much for following. About 4 or 5 more chapters to go.

Again, your use of metaphors, simile, and imagery make this an outstanding write.
two-ton telephone
some far off archaeological site called childhood. And they needed to be excavated
Sara suited up in her Tonto garb and began clearing away the brush...attacked the overgrown tangles that stunted my progress... shuffled flashcards
tucked away in pockets... released in sporadic flashbacks. They struck like bolts of lightning,
found myself tuned in to a brand new radio station.
In reading the twelve steps I noted reference to God. Would this not exclude or discourage agnostics and atheists, Muslims, and those of other faiths from signing up?

No, because it is suggested throughout to find a God of ones own understanding or substitute good orderly direction. Although a Higher.power is relied on by most, the point is to find something larger than self. In the beginning for most who have a problem with the God perception they
Use the group.
Thanks for the great review and for following. 4 or 5 more chapters to go

Thanks for clearing that up.

I recognize the author and knew I would have an exceptional chapter to read and I was not disappointed. The chapter is filled with imagery and emotions as always and the reader enjoyed.

I liked how this one came out, well written. No errors, I couldn't find any whatsoever.
I like this passage -- "I was moving forward, but it wasn't always painless. As the fog lifted, there were unpleasant memories lurking in the unvarnished truth. They were tucked away in pockets of yet-to-be-acknowledged regrets, released in sporadic flashbacks. They struck like bolts of lightning, and when I least expected it." You have wonderful flowery language. Thanks for sharing.

Wow--I admired your commitment--eight months of meetings and still resisting, but finally a break through! Your hyperbole with the "two-ton telephone" and the "Tonto garb" for Sara were compelling. Thank you for sharing your experiences and attaching the twelve steps--if one reader pays attention, your memoir will be very valuable. Big cheers- Joan

Hey there Dallas
I know full well from where you are coming. I am a recovering alcoholic sober since 1978. I owned a bar and 2 restaurants and had booze where whenever I wanted. My sponsor was Jesus Himself. I poured all the booze and beer down the drain, and sold my businesses. I am proud of you for your sobriety

Wow, Bear. That's 9 years longer than me. Congratulations. I wrote the book to help others and to leave my kids a reminder of their legacy. 3 boys all who have had a romance with alcohol. Only one still using. Every time I see my three grandsons on facebook they are tipping a beer.

Wow, what a story. And what a great ending. I'm so happy you were able to accept the help. I am glad to see that AA still has the same principles and hasn't tried to tailor them to suit "Modern Thinking" or political correctness as so many others have done. I remember seeing the story of the founder and it was very inspiring. It really is amazing what one person can do. Thank you for letting the reader take this journey with you, for a tiny taste of seeing what your life was like,

Thank you Roxanne. There are still about 4 more chapters. The final round just refers to my ending the battle of denial.
Thanks for following.

Very well written. My son is a recovering alcoholic and I have witnessed these struggles first hand. Now he has reached 25+years of recovery. You have experienced so much and should be so thankful you had someone to help you through the forest.

Thanks, Sharon. I wanted to leave my kids tangible evidence of their legacy, lest they are inclined to forget. 3 sons and they all have a history with alcohol
2 are alcohol free and one still at it. Everytime I see my grand children on facebook, they have beer in hand.
Thanks for the great review
