Great picture selection for this poem. The reader can really understand my mother was mentally ill and it was really difficult sometimes for us kids but we made it through. We had to learn to understand.

Wow! You get through a lot in the course of this poem--your suffering, their suffering, our reactions to suffering, what we might do about suffering, it's all there.

This is such a powerful and tragic commentary on mental illness.. being different, being ostracized and misunderstood.. it seems to be such a quick and natural instinct for people to pull away from and fear the unknown.. and to be immediately judgmental about the 'quality' of the person or situation.. if we each had to walk in each other's shoes for awhile, somehow I think that would all change.. and develop the compassion and empathy that is sorely lacking.. thank you for approaching and discussing such a human tragedy.. my heart goes out to you and your son, for those who have a cold-marble heart.. but just know, there is a lot of love and support from those who can identify with you.. and I can.. in more ways than one..

This speaks there are communication misunderstanding or negligent behaviour to mentally ill or those who love much, lost at both levels, some patients are indifferent, some are uncontrollable; well written, well done. Keep Writing -- DR ALCREATOR

Every one is built different. Some are not complete. Why? No one knows. There is no reason it just is. One can only be there for those you love. If their minds are someplace else or they can't see, hear or move, we as parents, as family, should not put them out of mind, we should try to find time to be there. Many times, financial difficulties keeps us from doing everything we can. Yet... being there counts. Even when we lose our life, for we have a life to care for. my heart goes out to you for I've been there.

I felt your pain here and your are very brave and thoughtful for your son. It's a pity we don't know more about such imbalances in the brain and what causes it. The distress you must feel for yourself and for him is beyond most peoples comprehension, I wish you luck with the contest, you touched my heart with this write, love Dolly x

This is a great story within a poem. So compelling and sad, as you are right people, most often do not understand. I send you prayers and may God keep you all and Bless you always. Good Luck and Best Wishes in the Contest! Sherman541

Dear Anonymous Poet;
This question and concern plague our nation. Although there are organizations for the families of the mentally ill to help them cope. The issue of support for the caretakers is real, but all too often ignored.

You are so right; the medications are supposed to be the end-all, and they are not. I have lived with my mental illness for over thirty years, and though my meds are somewhat steady, it seems that we still have to tweak them at least three times a year to keep me on an even keel.

I do hope you know you can write about your feelings, but that is of little help when you are trying to reach your son. Just know you are not alone,

~patty~
