Great poem to truly illustrate what Alzheimer's does and it surely is a thief in many ways. Good picture with a sad message. Thanks for sharing a message that we all too often forget.

Nothing more to say here. I have worked in many nursing homes, and I currently do now. Alzheimer's is a disease filled with so much emotion. I sometimes wonder if it is harder on the patient that does not understand or the family and caregivers that try to assist. It is a thief of so many things in a persons life. Very strong message here. Good use of the 1-6-1 format. The best of luck to you.

Sometimes Alzheimer's carries a hidden blessing. When my mother died she left behind her husband of sixty years. My father, who had Alzheimer's, didn't realize she was gone and continued to have loving conversations with her until he joined her.

I think this is a very fitting entry for the contest. There is a profound message in these few words about the challenges of Alzheimers. It is definitely a thief.

Thank you, Angela,
My mother suffered from dementia for nearly a decade. We all witnessed the diseases ravage her by bits and pieces rendering no relieve for her...or us. It truly was a thief...
Thank you for understanding my message and for your excellent rating and kind review...

Good idea! But for me, it just doesn't quite come together. Not together enough to pack any emotional punch. That reaction is only my feeling--others may feel very differently. The picture is a marvelous choice.

Hello Katya,
Thank you for stopping by.
My mother suffered from dementia for nearly ten years. She left us in bits and pieces, causing no relief. Thus, we viewed her form of dementia/Alzheimer's as a thief compounding our grief...
Thank you for your review!

It is so hard to get a lot of experience and story into such a brief form. Please excuse me if I seemed insensitive.

No worries, Katya,
I would have written about my mother in the Author's notes, but I thought that would be an emotional appeal to readers. I imagine my little poem has resonated more with folks who have loved ones who have experienced this heartbreaking illness...

"Crime in Bits and Pieces" is a good little poem. How true, the words of your poem. I enjoy the rhyming scheme of the three lines and it is written with the correct syllable count for the contest. You have chosen a clever picture to present your poem. Well done.

Writer yes Alzheimer's is a thief and although I've not had to be a caretaker but I've been around those that are caretakers and the caretakers of the ones that really go through a lot of things especially mentally and physically. And the sad thing that I'm told is the last thing that most of the victims forget to do is first swallow and then breathe. It Is said enough that they forget their loved ones but to see them go through all of the various staging of remembering and then forgetting it's just a sad time when that Thief hits a household. Thanks for sharing
