This 5-7-5 about a bird, Steadfast Song, has the correct set up and, along with the uni-rhyme style, brings the cheery and dependable songbird's melody to life. Nice.

    It actually won the contest for which it was penned.
    The Black-capped Chickadee is winter's saving grace in northern Michigan; it is always present - even during the most horrendous winters.

Can easily see why this was the winning choice of readers! Very cheerful little piece that reminds us that spring is around the corner - despite the fact that we are expecting our fourth snowstorm here in New England next week! We need to hear the melody of the chickadee - soon? Well done.

Congratulations on winning this contest, Diane :) The picture and poem are delightful. You got all the syllables right and in the right places too. I love to see the chickadees around our yard. I love when they sing, "chick - a - dee - dee - dee". It makes me feel like all is right in the world.

I liked the use of a end rhyme for the brief poem--it added a sense of lightness that partnered well with the content about a songbird beauty some beauty and color to a snow white/bland day.

Wow! I really liked this poem. You managed to make all three lines rhyme and have a song-like meter too. Very impressive. I loved the presentation too. Very pretty!

Your choice of picture puts me in the mind of a Christmas card or a postcard. Its so refreshing and the little bird looks so true to life. A little bird perching on a holly tree. Good job and very nice combination. something so simple with so little words that make a good impact of refreshing in my spirits. ts for sharing.

I love the Black-capped Chickadees that frequent my bird feeders.
