So true, in the Old West one did whatever they had to do to survive. Your comment about love not having a place in the West also rang loud and clear. This continues to be an interesting read the more I dig into it. As I said, will follow this one.

Great dialogue between the Traveller and Inga, especially the early morning dialogue, made me chuckle before the sadness of sickness came to the homestead. His reaction to her death I would imagine was appropriate for those hard times. Handled with in this chapter Thomas,
cheers.

Influenza is still killing people today. Once again I enjoyed reading your post. It's a good addition to your previous posts. This novel is a very interesting read.

As marriages go, you describe very rugged people who don't have time for pleasantries, but do understand their dependence on each other. I enjoyed the humorous exchange regarding Inga's language skills.

Sadly, you also characterized that there was no time or sense to mourn. Survival was key, so moving on, was the only alternative.

Wow, kind of sounds like the flu here in the north now. 77 children died in my state :( from the flu. I hope he learns what love is -- but maybe in shock that Inga died.
Well, catch you again, Tom,

Wow! That tale got to me. The dialogue was a great character development tool to create their relationship. There are certainly many places that you could broaden the story, but I sense we're getting the diary aspect of the history.

I like Ingas sense of humour, you have really lightened, what is obviously a very tough environment for this Swedish Lady to be in, but it also says a lot for her as a woman.
Love how this is progressing
Excellent writing Thomas

Hello Thomas
Inga the Sweden is quite the character, and you she does bring wonderful humor in this chapter; along with this dialogue
Bevore me, you tink the way to growing zikens vas to burying zem. Iz a goot zing ve got no zikens. You vood be burying zem all. Und you vood be talking vit yourz mule, zilly man."

Hi, Thomas

What a sad ending for Inga. I had a bad feeling when I read the folks had fever and blisters. I think this sums up what I think of as the way men would feel in the old West when losing a mate:

'I didn't mourn her passing. I had seen too much to mourn.'

Somehow, I find the above extremely sad to contemplate.

Well done, as always.

:) Bev
