These few words give a strong image of the squirrel looking for food and how this long winter has made it hard for all creatures great and small.
Congratulations on winning the contest

Love your haiku and congrats on winning the contest. I am a big squirrel lover and have never seen a black squirrel. I have seen red squirrels. You have an excellent use of words that clearly describes a scene of nature.

Hello!
Thank you for your kind words.
My fuzzy black squirrel was just at the feeder again! We have many black squirrels here in northern Michigan! And most of them are at our feeders! :)
Thank you for your excellent rating and review!

Hello!
Incredibly honored...
I will be sure to let the very chubby squirrels, who are at our feeders, know! I may even purchase them a new bag of safflower seed to celebrate!
Thank you!

I love watching squirrels. I don't know if I've ever seen a black one though. They can pretty hungry. Last spring I watched all the birds come in our yard and I noticed they were all very healthy. None of them went hungry. Great job and enjoy your friends.

Hello, Mrs. KT,
What a cute haiku! If I had a six left, rare at this time of the week, it would have been yours! Did you belong to Gypsy's club? I don't think she is here anymore. :( Yesterday I looked for her name -- not here.
I wish you luck in the contest! :)

Hi Rasmine,
So pleased you enjoyed!
I don't know of a Gypsy, and I have never belonged to any club on FanStory. Heck! I didn't even connect with the Forum until about two weeks ago! That quite the site!
Thank you for your kind review!

-Good image.
-Your notes sound very familiar,
as does the poem, but we have
gray squirrels.
-Good syllable count and seasonal imagery.
-Satori is good, as well.

Hello Pam!
I bet six reviewers have mentioned that they are not familiar with black squirrels. Must be because they are all at my bird feeders! :)
Thank you for your thoughtful and kind review!

You are very welcome for the review. Interesting about the reviewers comments, Diane. It just came to me that there is a red squirrel, too!

Hello Mrs KT
This is an excellent 5-7-5 poem and entry for the 5-7-5 contest
written as a haiku with solid grammatical connection
of the imagery in lines one and two, and a fine satori line.
Very good use of alliteration.
I've written often about our own bird feeder and the amusing squirrels.
Nicely done
Good luck in the contest and with the squirrels

This is a nice haiku and would have been a good entry for the haiku contest. Maybe you already entered another one. I think the co test may be over now. I joined today three minutes before the contest closed. Squirrels like to eat the same things birds when it comes to seeds, nuts, fruits, Vegetables. I never knew there were black squirrels. Your photo is proof. Did you take the photo? Thank you for sharing and best of luck with this poem

Hello Pamusart!
I am learning that many people have never seen black squirrels. Must be because they are all on our deck and at our birdfeeders! :)
I did not take this particular photo, but I have taken many. I attempted to upload my own at the bottom of the poem, but had no luck.
Thank you for your thoughtful and excellent review!

Seems this little critter has been enjoying himself, and found a way not to starve during the cold months of winter. Poem tells this story well. Animals can be so inventive.

Hello Brett!
He and his friends enjoyed a sumptuous banquet today! A storm is approaching, so all of my "little critters" were busy stocking up for it!
Thank you for your kind review!
