Story continues to be very intriguing. Apaches in those days were a threat to be reckoned with. That in itself could lead into a fight with the Indians, or maybe even an Indian raid? Several directions just that statement along could go. Will follow this one.

The Traveler has the opportunity to experience some things first hand and tell about them. For example, he taught me a few things about the camel and its history in Texas as an experiment.

Interesting comparison between the Arapaho and the Apache one more passive than the other. I like you descriptions of the camels, the ride being like - the worst stagecoach made - I agree they are a most unusual animal. Great read,
cheers.

I'm glad you included the section about the experiment with camels. They certainly didn't seem suited to the cowboys' purposes if they were hard to train and not easy to ride. Great comment about them being something the government must have concocted. Interesting contrast between the Arapaho and the Apache. The Traveler seems to trust the Arapaho but is on his guard when the Apache show up. It would have given the settlers an uneasy feeling, to say the least, if they thought they were being watched by the Apache. judi

Thanks. Each tribe had its own characteristics.

You're very welcome. It's understandable why the Americans didn't want to put up with the camels. judi

I like westerns , mate.
The challenges that you blokes had with the Indians were a lot like the challenges that the early settlers had with the Aboriginals.
We only had one organised military stand against the Europeans in this country and that was by the Kalkadoon tribe in 1884 at Battle Mountain.

I'm thinking of writing an Australian western, but I think that I need to know more about life in early Australia. To that end, I'm reading and researching all that I can about the era.

I research for a year before writing this. Good to hear from you. I haven't seen you since Bowl of Stew.

Hi, Thomas

Really enjoyed this chapter, especially the humorous opening:

'In Texas, I saw the strangest animal God ever created. It looked like something Congress would put together.'
Good one!

An interesting way to describe Indians. I'm just jumping into the book. It looks interesting from this passage. I will have to go back and start at the beginning. Look forward to reading it.

Intriguing one. I like the reference to the camels here as I remember the movie, "Hawmps." I like camels. Too bad they never made it in the US. Also, I like the Arapaho way of battle. If people just connected, they wouldn't have to go to war.

I once knew a girl who claimed to be Indian. She, actually, turned out to be about half Indian and half Italian. I just called her my pretty "A-wop-a-ho." Thanks for sharing another fine chapter. I'm enjoying the story, and I like the thought of learning a little about the old west too. Great job. :-)

Another intriguing look at the varying nature of the different Nations of Native Americans, back in the day. The Arapaho fighting method is the best. I seem to recall this, or something like it, from an old Zane Grey novel when I was a teenager. Good stuff.
