Very good story. I think we all have a Goat Man in our history somewhere. With maturity comes a better understanding of how to conduct ourselves appropriately. I think that most of the Goat Men in our lives would forgive us our youthful indiscretions.

Thank you for your comments. I have been away several months since I wrote this story. I don't see any way to just delete the review so, I guess as they say, "better late than never." Thanks again.

rather go 'past' where he is; i.e., he passed you on the road but you went past him later. I forget that boys start driving at an earlier age in rural areas which would help to believe drinking beer might sap your courage after telling tall tales. Good story. Betty Davis

I can so relate to this story. You tell it so well. I graduated from high school in 1970 and your life describes mine as well. It's truly eerie, running around deserted with flashlights. I just love it. Good luck in the competition.

This was well written with great theme and imagery.
It flowed well and read well with no grammar issues as well.
Adjective Content was aligned well with Objective Content and Descriptive Measures aligned perfectly.

Good writing. Yeah, I can see where you would feel ashamed now, back then you were probably scared to death and that fueled you.
Good luck in the contest. I don't see any spags.

Well written indeed, mate. Isn't it funny how the truth can often be scarier than fiction purely because of the fact that it IS the truth.
I'm not sure that it would be true that someone would be killed if it was done nowadays, as I generally think that this world has become a pale, pussy-whipped version of itself. I gave a bloke a well deserved hiding awhile ago and got fined $350 for the wicked? deed. Everyone in town said that he deserved it.

Good job. Kept my interest. Goatman probably wasn't happy to see you, but I doubt he was the sort to harm someone. Just wanted to be left alone. I knew a guy like that who lived in a hut in someone's pasture. They allowed it. After he died, I went inside and took photos of the place. Everything he had was from the 1800s... including a straight razor and cast iron skillet on a black cast iron stove. He lived on pancakes, I hear.

This is a very well-written, interesting story. It drew me in at the beginning and kept my interest to the end. I was on the edge of my seat from the moment you walked towards the cabin until you drove into town. Great job.

Dear Mystery Author,
This is an eerie story indeed. My heart goes out to people that wander and live alone. There are a lot of people out there that we have no idea what struggles they face. I'm like you as a kid - I'd have been right there with you running for my life to get away. My husband would have been bringing him groceries and making sure the man was okay. I learn the best qualities from my husband.
Best wishes to you in this contest.
- "I would rather go (passed) where he is..." - I think that should be past.
Sincerely Joy xx
