You express yourself effectively in this post, and I agree with your explanation of the combination of elements required for good writing. While you say in the Author Note that you "struggle in determining the rules per style, and style per application," that does not show in this particular short essay. Well done, and aptly illustrated.

I struggle with the rules per style too. My biggest thorn in my side (not sure why) is keeping my story in the past or present tense. So, I believe WE WILL overcome this. I loved your story and you have my vote. Thanks for sharing your good write!

Hear, hear. I think 'voice' arises from saying 'what the hell' and writing the way you feel. Style requires putting 'what the hell' into the most evocative communicative form.
When I think of writers who matched their distinctive voices with unique styles, I think of Charles Bukowski, William Burroughs, Joseph Heller, J. P. Donleavy, James Joyce, William Faulkner, Samuel Clemens. In each case, I think they created 'styles' to match their 'voices'. To me, the melding of the two creates verbal music.
I'd say, if you want to have a unique voice, you need to develop a unique style, too.
Nice take on the prompt, and good advice.

Thank you very much for your review and feedback. I agree with you. I would much rather write the way I feel, paying no attention to proper prose, etc. I do my best to twist the rules to and generate my own style. Afterall, what is it that people say about their favorite authors? Oh yeah, they say, "they love the author's style of writing." Thank you again, I appreciate it.

I still like to go back to basics to learn and write better.
My degree is in production and promotion in advertisements.
