Congratulations on winning the contest. You include excellent details that reflect how people feel when they're spending Christmas along. You do end on a good note by telling how you still have each other and your memories. The idea certainly strikes a chord. There are things people can do to avoid being alone, such as inviting others who have no family to visit come for the day, helping out at a homeless shelter, etc. Merry Christmas to you and all the best in the new year. judi

Thank you for the read and review. Your idea about not being alone will be fulfilled this evening when we go to a party at a friend's home for people who do not have family near.

You've nicely captured the reality of Christmas...of how
it changes through the years. It's like the three
ages of man: childhood/vibrant, messy, raucous middle years/
and, finally, the the more serene years of introspection. If
you're lucky you get to share them with your lifemate in
the glow of shared memories and a sense of accomplishment :-)

This moving poem brings a sense of melancholy to the reader, well to me anyway. I worry if several years time this will be my Christmas but with my sister, as we are both unmarried and share a flat together. Sometimes you don't need lots of people and we should be grateful to the ones we do have. Good luck

This XMas writing prompt was rich in Theme, as well as imagery.
It read well, flowed well, and had no grammar issues.
Adjectives as well as Objective Content were excellant.
Descriptive Measures were in place.
Thanks for this.

A melancholy Christmas story of how we empty nesters adjust to how grown children spend the holidays. Our son married this year so we are joking those ranks. Even though it's sad, I enjoyed reading it. Merry Christmas.

I think this is a good entry for the Xmas Poem writing prompt.
It's always nice to spend Xmas with family but sometimes it is just memories.
The lovely picture is a good match.
Well done and good luck to you with the competition.

This speaks about celebration of Christmas only by two sitting by the blazing fire and turning the page of their memory book and nothing more of fun surrounding; I like. DR ALCREATOR

A very well-written Christmas poem. It is sad but true. Our children grow and have their own families, living far away not able to visit. Parents end up all alone at home.
