That was a great s.tory. I think, though, I would have been afraid to have stopped and helped the guy, fearing it could be a trick. But it seemed well and made its point. Salt and pepper curls framed a face etched by time and hard work. [loved this line.]

Yeah, and that goes to the figurative part of the story. As an allegory, it works. In reality, who would stop? Not sure I would. lol.

Hi, Rhonda;
Such a beautiful and sweet story. I often wonder about the 'tests' that we come across every so often. Is the person laying in the gutter an angel or a spirit? Will we show our true nature of goodness by taking care of them? Or, will we be beaten and mugged for our trouble? It all depends on our outlook.

Within the lines of your story, you told of a woman looking for answers, and she found them through her kindness. Great writing and wonderful thoughts,

~patty~

    Thank you so much, Patty!
Yes, you caught the intent of the story. I've thought so often about the opportunities for help I've passed up because I was afraid or shy. In Suzette's case, I think she was more afraid of her life as it was then what could happen to her.

    Thanks for reading and responding.
    Take care,
    Rhonda

The story is so inspiring that I could almost feel Suzette's Depression leave as she made the attempt to help "The spirit of Christmas" or Santa. And to add to the inspiring story, the cell phone as a gift was a nice touch. Good Job.

Again, thank you for the lovely six star gift, and for your wonderful review. I tried to take a non-traditional look at the season, and to remind us there are people out there who might not enjoy the holidays as much as we do.

    Take care,
    Rhonda

Fourth paragraph seems a little off in wording, but all in all this is an excellently done piece for the Christmas story contest. I love the idea of Christmas spirit

Oh what a beautiful story, a lovely delicate fantasy of the Christmas spirit, something we hear so little of these days. I think you did very well Rhonda. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas yourself. Best wishes, blessings, Giddy

It is all about the spirit sometimes. You did a great job with this and I could see a movie coming from this. Christmas can be a bad time of year for some but things like this can make it a little better even if it's not real life, or is it?

What a delightfully uplifting story to inspire the warmth that radiated from this lovely Christmas story friend Rhonda. A better presentation of the round fat guy, I generally resent for replacing the true gift of Christmas, our saviour Jesus Christ, it's better it Santa Claus is presented as an ideal rather than a true person, as being a representation than the invention that Coca Cola did back in the thirties, excellent job, well done, good luck, blessings, Roy

Thank you so much, Roy! I was trying to represent Santa as a figure of the season, rather than the real person. I'm glad you picked up on the symbolism.

I appreciate, as well, the beautiful six stars. You are most generous and supportive.

    Merry Christmas,
    Rhonda

This is the best Christmas contest entry I have read in years. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful story. It's so easy for us to forget the meaning of Christmas. Good luck with the contest.

Wow, Barbara, thank you for the beautiful stars and the comments! What a sweet thing to say. I did try to come up with something non traditional, especially since the world has gone through so much pain recently.

    Take care, and Merry Christmas!
