According to my husband (and he says little about Vietnam) it was a difficult place to be and drugs or alcohol were deemed more than simply necessary to get through the days and nights. I bless you for that! Sipping a glass of wine now and then does it for me.

I like it, it has a feeling of a song. I particularly liked the repetition of bleached bone and the theme of bone running throughout. You say it was written in Vietnam, but I did not feel it was tied to that era and it felt fresh and relevant for today.

Interesting write. I just might take your advice on how to read this one. Fortunately I read your notes before going through and marking it up. The adapted repetition probably seems a lot more profound under shrooms.

Well, I can well believe what you're saying is that you wrote this while being on magic mushrooms and in Vietnam no less. Not that I've been high on anything than a glass of redvine or two. Those were crazy days back then. Ulla:)))

Thanks so much for the words of explanation in the authors notes. It did seem a little bit out there to me. But . . . I get a sense that even at that age you had experienced some of the complexities of life and come to the conclusion that the world had no answers. It seems you came to a simultaneous conclusion that God had no answers either. At this point I would say that God is the only one who does have the answers and we aren't always asking the right questions. You obviously showed your literary giftedness Wayback in 1969 when I was 14 years old. Thanks for continuing to write and gifting your FanStory family with your creative genius!

This is definitely a socio-political poem. Favorite lines were:
Life's gravity exerts great force
Upon the poor, it's true, of course,
And makes the wretched people sick
As Mammon plays a dirty trick
This poem serves as a reminder that priorities ought not to be concentrated on the world's approval nor unfettered materialism.

Excellent poem about the rough life in skid road. I know fighting in the Vietnam War was horrible. Thank you very much for your service.

Well done

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

I have not indulged in mind altering substances since the 1960s, but I still remember how I felt. Like then I am forced to exclaim, "This is some powerful S**it!" Your work is very reminiscent of that era. I was taken back as if on a magic carpet ride to the time when this kind of content was the SOUP DU JOUR. To say I love this is to be vastly under stated. I will simply close by saying, thanks for the ride.

Yes, extremely long and just way too much for me to digest Easy... Although I did read the beginning and skimmed down so I could see what else I might find.

Hi friend. Dante's Inferno is long. My poetics are short. I am certainly no Dante do in that time frame this is a short rift. lol Read the classics to appreciate all forms. Some long and laborious some short and victorious. "The cat sat" is considered the best short poem ever written. So, case closed. Thanks. easy

Wow, I am shocked to get a response from you Easy. I have reviewed so much of yours and this is only the second response I have ever gotten,
Yes, some great writings are long. Of course they need to be interesting enough to read. Many of your works are quite long and I have read through all of those. This one just did not hold my interest? but that is okay as I am quite sure there will be loads more from you😍
