Sometimes one must do what they must do. Although the trees do add a natural setting for the house, seems you have weighed that against the potential damage they could do and made the decision necessary. Noticed no errors. Well done!

I appreciate your review, Brett. With the advantage a year forward, it was a good call, and allows us less mosquitos for the win!

Four Beautiful Sentries, needing to be uprooted, slain, done away with, cut down, removed. It's sad to have it come to this.

Thank you for your review, Marvin, and my apologies for the delay in responding. I've been off-site for too long tending to my grand babies born six days apart! I appreciate your review. In retrospect, the tree removal did make for a cleaner patio, but I still miss their beauty!

I can relate the the writer's emotions about losing such beautiful sentries.
The arborist was right, it had to be done.
We had a beautiful evergreen shrub that was 50 years old. It grew back against the house , the roots began to tear the corner walls apart. It has to come down now. My father planted it when I was a child and it's hard to do, but, it's a lot cheaper than rebuilding the house!
What a great way to end, the choice to see life through the eyes of a child.

space needed here - "...researched and hoped..."

remove the period after "have" - you didn't end the sentence there, even though his sentence ended

No, you don't sound like a fruit loop to me at all - it's sad. If that is a picture of one of the trees, they're very beautiful!

I know how you feel, Mary, I love trees and would hate to see them cut down. It's a sad fact that many people don't understand that trees must be planted away from buildings, or at the very least make sure the roots go down and not across searching for water.I hope it's not as painful as it sounds, you should replace them with something else. :) Sandra xx

Oh, how wonderful! My goodness, Granny is going to be very busy! I'm so happy for you. Yes, I completely understand you not being able to write so much for a while, but what a wonderful reason! Thanks for the nice comments about my books.xx

Hi Mary,

It is sad when one has to cut down perfectly healthy trees, and lose the lovely shade they provide. I've been in your shoes, and when faced with the alternative of having a cracked foundation or plumbing problems, as you say Mary, "it is the only option you have".

I hope things are going well for you and family in your new home. Your piece is well written and I wouldn't change a thing. Nice picture ... those trees really are beautiful. I can see why it bothers you to have to cut them down.

Hugs,
Connie

Written as if the four trees were actually your children interesting how somebody could not sufficiently realize the damage they're causing so beautiful trees with double plastic and so that they can't get any water but you know life is life I thanks for this talk to Ricky 1024

Did all of them have to go and why not direct roots of one away?
I hate to see things like this happen and I know they were probably made you love the place. Nicely told

Your writing is so lyrical. I'm with you. I apologize to my bushes when I have cut them back. Planting small trees next to a house can mean their root system will eventually reach under your house. Clever to contrast your reaction to that of the boy's. A great ending.

Thank you for your review, Shari, and your beautiful SIX! My apologies for my delay in responding. I've been off-site for too long tending to my grand babies born six days apart, and with our fourth due in ten days, I'm not sure if I will ever get back with much consistency. I sincerely appreciate your review. In retrospect, the tree removal did make for a cleaner patio and few mosquitos, but I still miss their beauty! I've been keeping up with you and your challenges in the meantime. I hope things settle down soon for you.

Oh that is so sad. I hate too to see trees cut down but when they are knocking out the foundation of the house, there is nothing you can do.

Well, at least you will have the enjoyment of your grandson.
