This is an unusual tale and even more strange that it is true. My husband has a cat for 17 years and when my husband died, the cat died two weeks later! Strange things happen in life and maybe it was a blessing as the dog hated everyone! He looks a bit like a fox! I enjoyed your short story. Love Dolly x

Despite the limited words allowed, I must say this was substantially engaging for me as the reader. The make-up of the story had a mysterious appeal to it that had me wanting to know more about Willy, and the reason for its disappearance. For me, as a fan of horror and mystery, this provides that spark of interest perfect for the Halloween season!

This is a very interesting short story you presented. But you know what? I think you did an excellent job because you told a complete story filled with emotion and heart in so little words. You need to flip that image of Willy though. Good luck with the contest.

Wow. What a story. This is worse than being lonely when your dog no longer likes you. Dogs have the sense to recognize smell sick people. I'm not sure if the dog has gotten another sick person to look after or died.

Very touching 50 word story. Short, but a great read - you have been able to portray in just 50 words the pain, the sorrow, the love and the mystery of your true story. Nicely done!

Hi there;
Thank you for sharing this weird and painful story. I've heard about cats leaving the house when someone is dying, but I've never heard about a dog just taking off. Obviously, Willy came into your life to be there when your husband came home to die.
Well written and a good piece of Dribble Flash Fiction,

I had not heard this piece of the Mike story before. The attachment between dogs and humans is fascinating - I saw a NOVA episode on it once, but I digress. Your brief 50 word piece touches on that in a poignant way, especially for those of your readers who are familiar with the backstory.
Hope your recovery is going well.

This is sad, and because I work Hospice I have seen this before in animals. They get very attached to the person dying and feel lost themselves just like people do with someone they have spent many years with. To a dog or cat hours seems like days.

A very moving story.
Maybe, like you, Willy was too kindhearted to see you go through the loss - like a second loss to you, even if you had klet him bed in and die at home.
Or Willy got as mad as anything, who knows?
Well done.

What a horrible chain of events. Enough of a battle with your husband then you get a dog for protection and company, and lose both. Utterly horrible.
I sincerely hope you are coping now.
