For many, this "Black Dog" you describe is full blown mental illness. I suffer from a few conditions that make me share many of these feelings. You've captured them extremely well and I'm glad you feel compassion for the suffering of others. Good luck in the contest, based on the entries I've read it's going to be one heck of a competitive battle.

Hi Lucian Thanks so much for your understanding review and I think writing is sometimes a great way to get rid of those pent up feeiings we are all prone to have . yes I am lucky that my black dog only comes around occasionally and after a lovely Bali holiday He has gone Yes I think this will be a great contest win lose or draw it is fun to enter them and I have had a great response for this one and to me that is my win All the best Cheers Christine

this is a sorrowful piece of poetry dear chrissy! i can definitely relate as i was diagnosed with schizophrenia 8 years ago and still have good days and bad ones, and if they are bad, they are truly bad.
thank you for sharing!
blessings and a big squeeze!

Hi Rebekka, thanks for reading my black dog and yes it is sorrowful but I am so much better now after 2 weeks in the Bali Sun with a good friend and allowed the black dog to go I think we all have good and bad days hopefully more good than bad A big heartfelt Bali hug to you Cheers Christinexx

The first verse seems to indicate a sinister allure tends to pop into your mind from time to time. This is illustrated by your words "dark thoughts."
The second verse depicts a rage festers deep inside you and "Plains of anger" start to rise. This consumes your life. When you get like this you need someone to "rescue you".
Like a frightened child you cower under the burden of these fears.
However, by holding on to who you really are you believe you can overcome these beasts that battle you.
Poem meets the requirement of this contest in that it is written ABAB with strong rhyming words.

It is a given that when we don't feel well our moods can plummet. Your poem speaks to me of a darkness that we all go through in our short lives. Don and Vicki

Hi DonandVicki. Thanks for reading my poem and thankfully the black dog has gone and I am much better, but yes the dark places are there it just not letting them get you but I thought I would write this and enter it into the contest as well. Cheers my friend from Bali Christine

An excellent entry in the ABAB Poetry Contest.
I find "black dog" to be a perfect descriptor of the deep melancholy that can affect any one of us... too many of us.
Glad to hear you have refreshed your spirit through a holiday - we all need to take care of ourselves!
Best of luck in the contest,
pf

The art work was chosen well
for these words written
When we have a lot on ones mind
we can think of things that have
happened that hurt us.
Life can be tough and also
happy and sad.
Honey tree
I have no six left.
