I hate to put it to you bluntly Anonymous Poet, but that IS my joke. The cartoon is not, however.
Sure, it may be an old joke, and it may be well traveled, but it's mine and is NOT "ripped off" as you say.
Perhaps you should get your story straight before you go around accusing people of things, yes?
I can't wait to see who you are...

So you're telling me you found this picture of Madusa sitting in a marriage counselor's office with her husband and the picture didn't have any speech bubbles saying exactly this? I've looked numerous times to find this same picture without the speech bubbles and can't seem to do it. So with that and being an old joke I can only assume this is precisely what happened. I guess simply by adding 'it's a rocky marriage' that that makes it your original idea? Come on. You even admit it's an old joke and well traveled but you're telling me YOU are the one who came up with it? That's preposterous. That's about as bas as the K9P joke. It won't be hard to figure out who this is. We've went around about this same thing before. Thanks for the great review, Dean.

Hi there,

I get what you're saying, but I would strongly urge you to re-word this your author notes. The piece in question did not win the competition, it was runner up. Many folk won't bother to check and will assume that the actual winner is the person who "cheated" which is not the case here... I can guarantee it...

If you have an issue with this, the best thing is to notify the site of any concerns you have. This isn't really the way to 'call someone out' and be so specific about it.

Thank you for the review, G. I did contact the site. They said no site rules were broken. I changed the author notes slightly to clarify that it could also be a runner up.

Lovely picture that complement your poem perfectly. Don't get to angry, not worth it. Learning kids right from wrong. You wrote about this. Thanks for sharing. I do get what you mean. Good contest entry.

Well, well, I'm glad to see someone else saying what I've said - more than once. I 'said' it to management though, because site rules forbid us from naming names (which is probably a very good thing - what's to stop someone from just trying to cause damage to someone by claiming he or she cheated, when he or she didn't...) Mind you, that's not to say I haven't written a poem or a dozen (generic) on the topic. Now if we were allowed to post the proof...

Well done! I can't imagine how anyone could have any feeling of self-worth if they'd do such a thing. The win would be meaningless anyway, wouldn't it? You'd KNOW it wasn't your work that won. But then again, I guess some people will do anything for money, or a feeling of power. ...sigh...

Thank you for the great review, Dawn. That's what the site told me, they didn't break any site rules, so nothing will be done about it. That's why I did put the proof out there. Nowhere else could I find this exact picture of Madusa that didn't have the speech bubbles in the cartoon. Yes, I'd like to win or place in these FS contests as well but I won't try to win with some idea I had stolen straight from humorous Google image search. What can you do? I just wanted to vent. Nothing will ever be done about it, so I guess I'll just whine about it in a poem. Haha. Thank you again, D.

    WHAT? I am appalled!!!
So copying someone's work and claiming it as your own is NOT BREAKING SITE RULES? Good God, it's actually ILLEGAL. How can it NOT be against site rules?

I will seriously have to think about whether or not I want to be here at all - I have paid for the coming year already, but man oh man, what does that say about members of such a website? !!!
reply by Dawn Munro on 09-Jul-2017
(Having prepaid for two years means I'll have time to think about it. I do love some of the features of this site, and I have made some wonderful friends... But I am shocked that you received that response to a report for cheating - plagiarism, really!)
reply by the author on 09-Jul-2017
The site actually took the piece down. They told me "I" was breaking site rules by accusing someone of cheating. I pointed out it was plagiarism but they said he just took an old joke and made it his own. Yes, I agree. I'm quite appalled as well. But it's always happened on here and always will. I just like to bring it to light when I see it happen. Thank you again.

This is hilarious! I have really enjoyed reading it.
I like poems that tell a story like this one.
Poor little boy. I wonder how old he was when this happened...
Good luck in the contest.

I'm sorry about your frustrations, but I understand how annoying that can be. At least your frustrations brought forth a great poem! ;) Cheaters never really win in the end, good luck in the contest. :)

This work has reached the exceptional level

Good Morning, Poet,

First of all, thank you for bringing this issue forward as an important public service for those of us who value creativity and honesty in our writing.

Secondly, I enjoyed your well penned rhyming quatrains about how to cheat. The abcb rhyming pattern works well and the cadence of the read is smooth and natural. Your poem is surely original, laced with appropriate humor, but more importantly with important thoughts for the reader to ponder.

Plagiarism is a problem on this site, in schools and colleges, etc. The poem you've used to highlight as an example for the basis of your poem is a perfect example of 'how things can be done' and win contests, enhance ratings, and all the while the writer/poet suffers no consequences.

Plagiarism is the stealing of ideas and concepts, either directly (a direct lifting of words and phrases, etc.) or indirectly (paraphrasing and/or shifting words around or leaving out a few and/or adding a few). Cutting out the copyright line from the photo adds proof to the pudding of your poem.

Again, kudos to you for highlighting this problem, and particularly so on a contest winner.

-Ray

Thank you for the fantastic review and big sixer, Ray. It looks like I'll have to remove this from sight even after all the generous pumps you added. (Thank you for that as well.) The site tells me accusing someone of cheating is a break in their site rules. So I need to remove it. That's if I'm not being kicked off the site. It's funny though. I even tell them about the plagiarism and they don't see that as a break in the site rules. Ha.
    Thanks again, Ray.
reply by mountainwriter49 on 09-Jul-2017
You are very welcome. I am terribly upset that Tom made you remove the poem, but allows Dean's plagiarism to remain posted. This is not a good thing for the site as a whole.

I rather think you exposed the cheating rather than accusing anyone of cheating. The facts speak for themselves.

    Ray.

"Photoshop Your Dreams", is a well-written and entertaining piece. This poet's work was I think, written tongue-in-cheek. It was a pleasure to both read and review a work of this caliber. You KEEP WRITING and I'll keep reading.

Hello Poet:

I think you've illustrated your point well with the pictures you posted to accompany this piece. Even though you used the same picture twice, I wonder if it meets the intent of the rule that clearly states only one illustration.

I liked this stanza best, it really drives your point home:

As you see, I'm being sarcastic,
true worth you'll find within.
With values and dear morals
you'll need not cheat to win.

Good luck in the contest!

Kim

Thank you for the great review, Kim. Yeah, I didn't catch that part about the just one pic rule. I'll have to change this before the deadline. I used the same picture twice because the second one was photoshopped. I did that to show exactly what someone else did for another contest that they placed in. They just took out the words of the cartoon and used them for their own at the bottom of the pic. This is just a rant. Lol. I really appreciate the gracious stars and good luck wishes, Kim. I'm glad you liked the piece.

I realized why you did it and it was effective, I just didn't want you to get disqualified for the 2nd picture... things like that sometimes happen.
reply by the author on 09-Jul-2017
Thank you again, Kim. I'm going to have to change the whole thing. I was pretty far off from what the contest holder is wanting. I just jumped on the first contest that came by so I could rant, lol.

I especially liked your author notes. I have reported several of these instances, only to be told it didn't violate site rules unless verbatim. I think I, too, will just give up.I hope I'm never in a contest, trying to win $100, only to be beaten by an old Internet joke.

I think the contest rules here say only one piece of artwork.

That's the same thing that happened in this one as well. I was told there wasn't any site rules broken. I was dumbfounded, even when I went as far as to provide the cartoon it was stolen from and showed exactly what had happened. What can you do? Thank you for the great review and I really appreciate the generous stars and promotion help. I'm glad you liked my little rant. Before the deadline of this contest I'll have to change it. Apparently I didn't comply to the rules. Thank you again.
