This is a great autobiography. I enjoy how you tell how you might your dad and the love and care he gave you. Your first paragraph I think is not needed. Other than that it was an intriguing bio of you.

So heartwarming. The end brought tears to my eyes. The balance of love and discipline is a difficult thing to accomplish, and it sounds as though your dad had that down pat. You were both greatly blessed. This was a lovely read!

What a wonderful man he was, he obviously saw something in you that needed to be brought out. That was a lucky day for you when you decided to try and get ten dollars out of him. you ended up with so much more. I look forward to reading the rest of your story. Oh, and you are right about 'dad' and 'father', mine was 'Dad' and my mother was 'Mum' all their lives and I miss them everyday too. :)) Sandra xxx

You were very lucky. Most people would have fed you maybe, but they wouldn't have gone the limit as Dusty West did. What a man! I enjoyed reading this and look forward to more of your story. I am curious about the years before the two of you met.

I didn't feel that same feelings for my Father as our relationship was strained, but your story is uplifting and a joy to read, best wishes, love Dolly x

This is a beautiful story, Brett, and one that inspires all of us to perhaps pen our own story about our parents.... some day.... Thank you for sharing yours.

And a wonderful story it is too. Perhaps you should also digress and explain how you became a street "urchin" while you're at it, (or have you already, Brett)Yes, not only did you explain how up you were adopted, but the other cliche was the "anyone can be a father, not everyone can be a dad." Which is the best way to describe, the difference between procreation and mentoring.' Well done, Dusty West isva story worth telling. Blessings, Roy

I loved my dad too. That is always a fine story a tough kid and a lonely adult, to give the status of 'true story' helps as well.
Writing has the effect of making us reveal our darker side. Good job. Regards Anne

What a great story. It captures the love and warmth that you have for your Dad. This is a great tribute to your Dad for Father's Day. Very well written

Actually, I tried to buy food for an old lady panhandler, but she ran off. I believe she wasn't all that hungry. Just thirsty if you know what I mean.
Did he legally adopt you?
