Hi Nicole, can I be honest with you? If you see yourself as stuck with retirees on FS then I suggest you go somewhere else. You will also reach the age of a pensioner. By the way, I never worked so hard since I stopped working at the age of fifty when I retired from my job. Now I work the land and build a house at the grand old age of 65. Did I take offence of that remark of yours? Yes, I did. Very degrading remark indeed. I was always taught, think before you speak. And that has nothing to do with being dishonest. It's called tact. All the best. Ulla

Dear Ulla, I will not take your suggestion to go elsewhere. I intend to stay with FS until I've finished my task.
Being stuck on FanStory with retirees is true. The fact that you find yourself personally insulted at a general remark borders on the absurd.
I too have worked the land and built a house. Try sheep farming and forest clearing--it?s heavier than cherry-picking and makes less money.
These days, most retirees cannot afford to retire. Some turn to writing and that?s a good idea for those with talent or stories to tell.
By the way, have you published your story of locating your parents? It was interesting. At present those sorts of stories are trending.
Life presents situations to all of us. How you react to them is what counts. It is your choice to laugh, rise to anger or walk away.
-
I'm intending to publish, and hopefully soon. Well, if you think mixing cement and carrying bricks is not heavy work then I say no further. We are actually physically building not watching builders doing it. And you would be surprised how hard work cherry picking is. From dawn to noon. Then boxing and then go selling them. Now we are turning over the land to get rid of bad weeds. Farming and building is very hard work, but we've chosen it and we love it. Ulla
-
Ulla, I have mixed cement and carried bricks too.
Speaking from experience, purchasing a small, Chinese-made concrete mixer is an affordable option. They are electrically operated and last for years.
-
Sorry, I dont' think a chinese mixer will build a threehundred square metre house. Never mind. Forget it. Thanks anyway. We're talking serious building here not a chinese production. I'll write about it one day with photos and then you'll understand. Sorry to be argumentative. Ulla:))

Well of course you must work harder than anyone else to get the biggest and the best. Enjoy!

And so I#m muted. Swell!!!

I don't mind honest, as long it is tempered when needed with tact. lol
I didn't get the job; that's why I'm stuck here with retirees on FanStory. - hey, some of us have full time jobs you know... lol

Yes, I've manned a sheep farm and juggled FS--I know all about it. Modern people don't regard activities such as cooking, cleaning, mowing the lawn, shopping, ironing and cleaning up after pets as work anymore. Oh, and I'm currently re-decorating my house ... DIY addict .... Of course, none of it is work--I never get paid.

I enjoyed this one, Nicole. The way you told the story by separating each experience was creative. I can take note from your writing and ideas to make a piece new and creative. I enjoy your style.

I'm brushing up on my writing skill and rewriting those story I've written in Present Tense to Past Tense. I was not confident with writing correctly, so I started with Present Tense. Now, I have a handle on writing free on the many mistakes I did in the beginning.

I think we've all lied at sometime in our lives - sometimes the truth can hurt a person - therefore, as long as it does no harm, then lie might leave her/him comforted.
My ex was a compulsive liar, so much so that he once said to me, he didn't know what the truth was anymore.
The trouble with a lie is - it has no legs and needs another lie to support it ... and another .... and yet another.
Most interesting, Curly.

Yes, what you say is true. One lie leads to another.
My name is, Nicole. I thought to call myself Curly in this piece would help distance it from me.
Thanks, Margaret.

LOL, I am laughing and enjoying this post. I, too, have a problem with not lying. My brother told me that is was actually called, 'lack of tack'. Hmmm makes me wonder. Good write.

Old, Jack Cosky, the minister(+,) was a well-liked man. I picture his smiling face as he questions Sunday School kids.
Nicole, I think that first virgin-hunter was an honest soul. The second, though was a conniving little rogue.
Great. Unlike you, I learnt never to be honest to man or woman - only to children, because they're honest back, lol!
Cheers,
Apky

Thanks for reading, Apky.
Eventually, I found my dear husband who I can be honest with, but everyone else--it's best to be wary.

Yes, you're right, Charlie.
Once upon a time, I made the mistake of telling people that I was planning a sex party for a Friday night when I was at work.
Let me tell you: THAT WAS SUCH A BAD IDEA.

This is really very well written and you got me laughing out loud several times. You have a real knack for humor and know how to put it into words. That isn't something many can do. I enjoyed this very much and must say thanks for the laughs.

You have a natural, easy-going style of writing, Nicole, that you should cling to and not get artsy. I don't think you will--you've already passed that stage we all seem to go through.
I didn't get the job; that's why I'm stuck here with retirees on FanStory. [Hey, that's funny! Okay ... and probably a little true.]
Great job with this piece.
