Easy to visualize the little girl plopping down, waiting for Grandpa's story. His emotions at the telling of the destruction of The Lady of Liberty and all that it means comes through well with - the old man turned away as though stricken. Good dialogue story mikey, and I agree, people are missing out on Deb's topics, but some of us will still push on.
cheers,

Hi, Valda
I recruited Barb. LOL
I'll and get back to reviewing and participating more. I'm so appreciative of your wonderful reviews. You're on the money with great insights always. It will pick back up I'm sure. Not too many prose writers around. But, good for us anyway. :)) mike

Oh where was this amazing myth when they were the form in the poetry potlatch. I think this is an incredibly myth about the future of our democracy in the Western world if we aren't careful.
But then, who knew freedom was so fragile it can vanish virtually overnight.
Excellent character choices of a grandpa and presumably his granddaughter. I can see this playing out as a screen short with a voice over.
Beautiful story and the light from the statue of liberty and the inscription, Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
This is a pure delight, Mav.
Love it!

I'm still struggling trying to make actual plays, but I'm thrilled that you understand exactly what I was going for here. I kinda liked this one for a change, Ange. So, I'm quite pleased that you do as well. I fear that one day it will just be the story of our demise. I wish crossing our fingers was not the extent of our options. Maybe there is still some action left in us. Hope so.
Thanks so much, Mav

A rather tragic tale if you think about it. Yes, Lady Liberty is disappearing. Your tale reminded me of the scene in 'The Planet of the Apes,' when he came upon the vision of Lady Liberty's head sitting on the shore.
Could this have been foreshadowing?
Thanks for sharing your reply to the prompt,

I know I've said this before, but your talent shines through. I swear with each post you get better and better. I don't think it will be possible to improve anymore, but I bet you will.

Hello, Michael,
A very sad tale and horrifyingly possible. We live in dangerous times. We never know what trump will do next and what catastrophic effects will have. Well done my friend.

This was a great story Michael. Yes, it is a myth, but not that far from the truth, however when people come here and try to change what we stand for, that is another mater. We are a melting pot and that is what we must become. Well done. Nancy

Hi Mikey,
I really loved this short dialogue between the child and the old man. What a great little story and so beautifully written. I like that you use a currant topic and turn it into a myth of long ago.
I hope your predictions will turn out to be right.
Your writing and descriptions invoked a lot of imagery to go with this cute story.
Well done.

This gave me goose bumps, Nichael. What a perfect way to get your message across and it was chilling as hell to. Cool the way the girl spoke just a little strangely. Awesome to tie in Trumps global warming myth so subtly like that. The damn thing is, this is all too real. NG

A very well-written dialogue between grandpa and his granddaughter. Surprisingly the little girl is very interesting in the ancient myths grandpa is telling.

Yes, she was and it makes me want to cry that what she stood for is being trampled on or even disregarded:
She was called The Lady of Liberty. She was the holder of freedom for the world. All who were oppressed could but look for the light shining in the darkness and go to it. Once they could see her standing in the ocean, they knew they were safe."
Thanks for this truly meaningful read, Michael.
