Going from being the protected by grandpa to the one protecting grandpa. What a cycle of life indeed. Very personal and thought provoking. It is good to know there are still those that care.

The cycle of life can mean when the grandfather remembers how he held his own grandfather's hand. The traditions of life mean respect and charity towards those in need.

Grandkids are God's way of giving us a do-over. Everything we screwed up on their parents, we get an opportunity to fix.

That was a good, respectful grandson you witnessed on that train today, Gypsy. Thank goodness the boys parents haven't placed him in a nursing home somewhere and the boy gets to spend some actual quality time with him.
It's something he'll be grateful to his parents for long after Gramps has gone.
Touching (no pun intended), and the sentiments expressed here in just 16 syllables packs quite a punch!

Ah yes the cycle of life. This is so true and your senryu reflects that in just 3 lines.
There' a little saying going around that in some cases is true
"Be nice to your kids for they will choose your nursing home"
And my favourite "where there's a will, there's relative"
It's great to see son's and grand sons, daughters and grand daughters have that relation ship of caring for the father mother or grandfather/grandmother.
So the new generations move on and continue the legacy of their family name.
