It's a little frustrating to keep seeing the same old contests pass by the wire, week after week, month after agonizing month.
Of course, no one forces us to enter them, do they? You also have the ability to create your own contests. I think it'll cost ya like four member bucks.
How many contests have YOU created?
The only problem with creating contests featuring fresh, innovative and new ideas is the fact that they're shunned like the damned and dying when the Black Plague epidemic swept through Europe during the 13th century.
Nobody bothers to enter them.
I know, I've created a few myself and have had maybe seven or eight entries, tops.
People like to bitch and moan about things, but when the proverbial rubber meets the road, they rarely wanna do anything about it.

Deano: I joined Fanstory going on nine years ago for the contests "only,"strictly as a pastime. I had no interest whatsoever in rank or ratings and still don't. But, I don't resent those that do.
During my first 4 or 5 years as a member, I created one or two contests each week, so I've paid my dues. Back in those days they filled up fast. However, the atmosphere has changed a great deal since then. I can't remember the last time I saw a full contest, not even close. And, I don't think that will ever change. It doesn't matter whether they are member or site created.
Regardless of the disagreement we might have over the new and old version, I still think that you have a God given talent and you're using it very well...Bill

I feel the same way about your work, Bill.
I just think all of this debate over recycled contests is a waste of our breath.
Nothing we say will change it, unless we decide to create contests of our own.
My next will be a prose contest with the "Winner Take All" feature.
No one is using that option either, although some members complained incessantly about it to Tom.
Like I said, people simply like having something to gripe about.
That's all this amounts to.

Thanks Dolly for your excellent review, I really appreciate it. The contests are the only reason I joined this site over 8 years ago. They used to be a lot more fun a few years ago when the winner won all the pot and only one ribbon...Now, the pots are divided so many ways. I saw a contest a few weeks ago that just came out of the voting booth, it had 9 entries in it. And, all 9 entries split the pot, that's crazy. Also, now they're extending the deadlines. At times, for several days. It used to be the contest went to the voting booth as soon as the deadline expired, regardless of how many entries it had.
Sorry for ranting on, but I'm afraid all these changes will cause me to drop out. It already has for many.
Welcome Dolly...even with the changes, Fanstory is still the best writing site online, by far. Take care my friend...Bill

Hey Linda: How's the world treating you...no changes for me, except things are picking up here on the old farm. I'll probably be off more than on the next few months, just like you. I think I'll write one or two more and take a break. It's just not fun anymore, with all these changes. Several of the members that has been around for a few years are leaving one by one. And, that's not a good sign.

Thank you Irish for your excellent review, I appreciate it. I've been here over 8 years and used to join contests on a weekly basis, that's the only reason I joined. But, recently with all these changes I hardly ever join now, unless it's to complain. I still haven't posted my 6 poems for the new year in order to get ranked (ha).

This nonet, Repeating and Recycling Contests, has the correct format and seems to suggest that there is a push back to contests that come around again. I think there is an argument for that if one has been here awhile, but many new members have never entered. Happy day.

Thanks for your excellent review, I appreciate it. I'm in my ninth year here and some of the site daily writing prompts have been here almost as long. Do you remember sometime ago when the site opened the forum up for suggestions for new writing prompts from the members.
There were literally hundreds of great suggestions made and the site used several of them, but only for a short while. Then quickly went right back to the same prompts that's been used for years.

Participating in contests is the reason I joined this site over 8 years ago. They're fun and a great past time. Once you win your first ribbon and some money, you won't be able to stop then.
