Thoughts at the Iwo Jima Memorial

I thought... What was it like for the Marines at Iwo Jima?

Excellent choice--sonnet for this landmark. Well written and rhymed. This is one of the most memorable locations and events in history, I think. I can imagine how frightened the men but have been, but they performed their duty admirably.

This is an excellent poem for this prompt. It captures the intensity of this historical event and creates a powerful image. The form is an interesting choice for this theme, but it works. There are no flaws in the rhyme scheme.

The only typo I noticed was in the description, I think "a" should be at.

Other than that, I have no suggestions. Nice work.

This is a marvelous tribute to all the Americans who fought at Iwo Jima, and the six flag raisers specifically. I especially liked these lines:
"They knew with every step they hovered in death's shadow."
Your closing couplet.
I do get a big confused in stanza 4. Who marched forward, the six flag raisers or the Americans storming the beaches?
