Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Estory, this is such a down to earth and intelligent poem. It carried me along as I pictured your dilemma, the pieces of paper on the window sill, the empty mail box , the whole situation and I could feel lonely, that lonely that a writer/Poet needs to get that piece just right. This is that real stuff that poetry is made of, it has soul and jazz.

I, who never seem quite able to shake someone's hand,
To say something remarkable out loud,
Imagine the things they say to each other
And write them all down on little pieces of paper,
In all the myriad, brilliant colors of words,
Printed out in clear, bold print,
In the eloquent language of poets,
And paper the window with them,
One beside the other
Until the scenes in the panes of glass are gone
And the people in the outside world
Disappear.

Of course, nobody down there notices.
They don't see any of my silent messages.
The doorbell downstairs does not ring.
The mailbox is empty of letters.

In the dark, I turn on a light.
The light lights up my desk,
And all the blank, white pieces of paper
Yet to be composed into forgotten poems.

All of this poem is so beautiful to me, above are some of my favorite words.

Thank you for this magnifiscent six star review and for enjoying the poem so much. It's in a prosy, free verse style inspired by Jack Anderson. The poem is kind of about how writers often are distant observers of the action and emotion of life. I think this observational perspective on emotions and relationships, images and emotion, is what really makes a writer out of a person. This is a writer's way of connecting to the world, in all its uplifting qualities, and it's sadness. There is an upside and a downside to it. estory

There is sadness in these words and I think our poems are best read out aloud and enjoyed by others so that they resonate inside another so that they stir someone's soul. Your poems will not be forgotten, get them published! Love Dolly x

thank you for your great review and your sympathetic comments. I think to a certain extent, we are all alone, we all have this barrier between self and society, between perception and reality, and the poem serves as a metaphor for that to an extent. there is also a lot of distance between writer and subject, at times. between aspirations and reality. everyone wants to be heard, but not everyone wants to listen. these days, this is exaggerated by this 'me' attitude in people, maybe in me too. as for getting published- only known writers get published. You can self publish, but it costs a fortune and then your book will sit on a shelf in Barnes and Noble or in the stratospheres of Amazon will few people will read it. Everyone writes, but nobody reads today. We do have Fanstory. so some people get to read these things and enjoy them. And Facebook. estory

Hello, friend. Sorry I don't have a 6 available to give. Why don't they allow us more; ticks me off. Anyway, just want to say, someone always picks up those crumpled pieces of paper - and it changes their life.
Fond Regards, dear friend.

Hello estory
Glad you wrote your free verse about all the
(seems of the unknown writers of how they come up with creative thoughts about people and what is going on with nature itself
The main thing you yourself know you are a writer and a poet.

All I know your work should not be FORGOTTEN.
Keep all you have writings and put them in books

Which I'm doing
Gert

Your words here will ring true for many, we write as a release, it's a passion, a love, in many ways a mask of who and what we want.
This is an emotional journey through the eyes behind the quill which speaks volumes.
A wonderful deep read.
Have a lovely day

Oh, absolutely. I so identified with all of this. I could sit for literal hours, just wondering, and imagining about people...to write that which will quickly be forgotten. I look back on my years...all the 'family' memories....and realize...I'm not in them. I was the 'by-stander', the 'fly-on-the-wall.' I was the writer, gathering material, for forgotten poems. WISH I had a six for you, this is brilliant. Blessings...

Jesus, I can talk to anyone as if I've known them my entire life, even complete strangers.
My motto is 'a stranger is simply a friend whom I've yet gotten to know.'
You gotta be that way to be a successful writer.
At least I do.
How else are you ever going to get anyone to open up to you?
People carry around a LOT of interesting stories in their heads. All YOU gotta do is make them feel comfortable...and listen.
Take care, and enjoy your weekend, estory.

    Me too.
I'm more of a listener, not much of a talker.

wow. This is all so true. I believed for a long time that no one besides my family would ever see or appreciate my writing except for my family. Through the magic of the internet and Fan Story, I get to share with the globe. I did see a lot of myself within the lines - I love to people watch in restaurants, malls, and at the airport. I rarely introduce myself or chat away the layover. I see others do that, and I'm amazed.
The lines of your poetry spoke to me, and I believe that's all they need to do. Thank you for sharing,
~patty~

What a terrific poem. I really enjoyed reading your point of view on being a writer.

I think you're right for the most part. Writers by nature are observers.
