This was interesting form the start to the finish. I was engaged throughout. You did a great job telling of this memory.
I really like the line about the electric lines looking like broken guitar strings.
It sounds beautiful until one has to get out in it. Thank goodness your family had a wood burning stove & other non electric things.

Thanks for reading and commenting. We tried to play on the ice, but it was so slippery we couldn't stand up.

In Australia where I live we don't have snowfalls, but we did have terrible dust storms in summer with temps. of 100 +. Well done with this one, yes we didn't depend too much on electricity much orselves either, well done,well written, good luck in the contest, blessings, Roy

Wow, I can't imagine life without snow. We have had very little snow this winter, though. Unusual for Michigan.

A vivid childhood well described. What an impressive winter wonderland you recall with your words. I can just imagine the impression it must have made on you as a child. Just a couple of small points in the first paragraph. In British English we would call it 'forked lightning'. I'm not sure if that is also the case in America, but I thought I'd mention it. Also, I wasn't quite sure why a question mark was needed at the end of the paragraph. I enjoyed reading this one and wish you well in the contest.

What I said was In the middle of the winter in Michigan? It is highly unusual for thunderstorms or rain in the winter in Michigan. I was questioning the fact of the rain and thunder at that time of year. It seems to confuse some folks, so maybe I will remove it.

Thank you for the six stars. There are almost never thunderstorms in Michigan in the winter. It is about unheard of. Rain is very rare in winter too and can cause a lot of problems. That's why I said in the middle of winter with a question mark.

Morning sun on fresh snow is a beautiful sight and your description of the ice storm that sculpted your fields and farmland is detailed and vivid enough to put the reader right beside you looking out the window on the morning after the storm.
