Hi, Gypsy. Good effect with the music accompanying this haiku. It is a fine poem and of course it comes from you...the expert on Haikus. I wish you the best of luck in the contest. Looks like a winner to me. X Bob

I always enjoy your artwork selections--this post has both a dramatic work and an artful work where you embedded your haiku. You captured "frigid" winter and the heroic time. Cheers- Joan

Very traditional feel to the piece. Formed perfectly. Your satori is emotive and provoking. Clear seasonal reference. Loved the presentation. Thank you for sharing your work.

Excellent brevity and word economy!
All the way back to the Edo Period. The honourable Samurai, keepers of the peace but in doing so, did shed blood. An excellent haiku. Good luck!

This is truly a marvelous entry for this contest. I love the poem and have always admired the samurai's code. The first two lines connect perfectly and your satori is spot on. I wish I had a 6 left to give you but, as always, when I really need one I am out.

The samurai warrior embodied grace, Skill, dexterity, and force, but also the capacity to kill, and the willingness to die in combat. Often, death came quickly and prompted only a brief comment.

You are so good at this ancient art I remember reading Shogun and being so confused by the idea that suicide is honorable. Now, I cherish that the novel would and change me so much that by the ending I was understanding that suicide is honorable. Your poetry has some of that ancient feel. I commend you.

I've been fascinated by samurai warriors since childhood, the code of the Bushido and how they stood up for honor and principals, and how whether right or wrong they stayed true to their beliefs. An almost non-existent quality in our world today. Some 140 years after the samurai gave up their swords, their descendants still enjoy an edge in Japanese society. Thanks for sharing another fine poem. :-)
