This poem is well thought out and presented as to the dilemma of the illegal aliens who harvest our labor heavy crops. If not for them I'm sure the crops would rot on the vine. If we're going to fix this, we need to make a way to let them come here legally. The cost, in my opinion, should be born by the people who need them. Could be we could even use our own people who are healthy and on welfare. What we can't do is continue to allow illegals (in my opinion). Good write.

Thanks for the insightful review on a very delicate subject. I agree they must come in legally, perhaps create a sort of union. The ones that have been in America for decades should be granted some sort of amnesty. They have proved themselves valid regardless of their dubious entry. I also wonder about the massive loss of tax input from the semi legal ones. Canada welcomed thousands of draft dodgers from America escaping the vietnam war. Bottom line is, these immigrants happily provide a work force that should not be tossed like bathwater.I just read an interestig article from Vermont seven days journal where there is a real threat of the large dairy farms closing down f they do not have this labour force. The American kids can't, won't and don't want to do this endless, hard work. Trump is being reckless and myopic and using them as scapegoats to prove that he is a man of action. Shooting fish in a barrel comes to mind. We will see what happens I guess. oh yeah, semi truck and black ice also come to mind. sigh. Cheers, j

It is heart wrenching for immigrants and compassionate Americans, vegetable farms and Vermont dairy ETC. A woven fabric ripped. j

A couple years ago, we tried to take a group dog photo for christmas. After much spilled eggnog and 'bribe biscuits' we gave up and did them, one by one, in a WANTED poster style with their nickname and crime. We love our dogs eh. Cheers, j

Wow! A poem about this is so thoughtful. It is perfectly written also and yes what a problem, scarey that hate would rule in this world at this time. It is a backwardness that we are all facing in horror. Truth is always the first step. I love this poem.

Thanks for the encouraging review Tier. How could Trump be so myopic and reckless with this law?. These immigrant workers, many who have lived her for years, work hard, pay taxes and are enmeshed in their siciety, are being rounded up and tossed out. Did he take a minute to realize how these workers help on so many levels to get fruit and veg picked, run kitchens, watch your kids, lawn work, farm work, any menial job that this new generation do not want to do? They are happy and hardworking and bring a colorful and exotic facet to America. In Vermont, I often see them at the stores or on farms and I talk with them. They are so gentle and happy to be working. These big dairy farms will collapse if Trump's winged monkeys kick them out, seriously. Did he not think of the big picture or just tried to make himself look powerful? He has opened a can of worms. wish you well, j

Some are not capable of normal human or feeling because it doesn't belong to them to think normally about or for others. Some or just really bullies with communist views and beliefs. Scarey reality we are in this time but prophesy fulfillment. Your poemis so necessary though. Share it share it share it

I couldn't agree more. Your poem is excellent, and expresses your thoughts and emotions seemingly as easily as you might say them without focusing on poetry.

I wish I could stop there, but I want to say, in case you haven't noticed, that this contest, surprisingly, has three or four superior entries besides yours, which ordinarily, I think, would be a clear-cut winner.

(All deserve sixers, and I feel guilty that I'm not awarding any, although the blame should be put on the paltry quota of parsimonious Tom).

I'll have egg on my face if anyone runs away with this one!

It's been a hard decision, but I've decided to vote for your poem. It touches me marginally more than any of the others.

Good luck with the other voters!

Don

Thanks for your encouraging and funny review. I know it is a sensitive subject, but the implications of this rash and myopic decision makes me so mad. Many businesses will fold without these hardworking people. Veg and dairy farms especially affected. I often see groups of friendly Mexicans in Vermont and I say hello. They are always so warm and happy. Canada and America, with all their riches are obligated to help others I believe. Thanks for the vote Ogden no egg I hope., cheers, j

An excellent and artistic expression. Rhyme, meter very well done. I am having difficulty identifying the basic feeling you are expressing. In the poem, excepting the last stanza, the "feeling" appears to be an empathy and appreciation for the workers. In the author's notes it appears the feeling would be something different that you are expressing.
Thanks, and best wishes in the contest.

As much I like to disagree with you, I cannot. Your poem merely speaks reality. The foreigners are willing to perform this type of labor work, and I cannot see today's youth performing these tasks.

Your poem was well-written and offers the reader much food for thought. I hope our government take this into consideration when adopting or amending policy.

Thank you for the revelation, and good luck in the contest.

He is handling this situation wrong, spreading hatred and using these people as scapegoats for instant results to mkae it look like he is moving forward on his campaign promises. In Vermont, they are going to have major problems if they deport the Mexicans. Dairy farming is labor intensive, which they are happy to do.This young generation do not want these jobs. He is reckless, myopic and making America think that they are under attack from these gentle people. I am from Canada and we have a much different way of dealing with refugees and immigrants. We welcome them and they mesh peacefully with the Canadians.Of course you will have some bad apples but you cannot white wash an entire culture. Canada and America are so rich in many blessings, it would be a sin not to help others less fortunate. Thanks for your review on such a delicate subject, cheers, jTanks

You wrote a very good and sensitive poem about the plight of the migrant workers and the plantation owners. The problem is America doesn't have good economic team to see how to solve the failing economy, now Trump will make it tip deep low to the ground. I like your lamenting in these four stanzas. But he did warn that he will wreck the nation, as he claimed that he will make the nation better (really?): brings jobs back to the US (no body wants to work with low wage so what is he talking about), makes education better (hogwash!), economy will grow (to the down direction not up) just a few issues. Yet people didn't recognize the horror he will cause. And he is doing a fine job right now with his thoughtless acts that are effecting many many families financially already. He is a real scare to the future of this nation. The blind leads the blind. Your thoughts are well presented. The feeling that is generated from this poem is total disappointment in the nation's direction. I like your use of simile in stanza 2. I can picture these many family-owned farms going being raided. Your write fits the entry about Feelings. Best wishes to you.

Thanks for your review on such a delicate subject. Yes, there are immigrants and refugees in America and each one is unique. One may have been there for 20 years with a job, family, financial obligations paying taxes and someone has come over and commited crimes and offers nothing to the commuity. How can you whitewash the situation and herd them out like cattle? Canada and America are so blessed that it is their obligation to the world to help others. The trick is to do it in such a way that it is fair and humane to the hosts and immigrants alike. Trump has no idea of what he is doing and the implications his harsh and xenophobic words create to everyone, sigh. Cheers, j
