This is excellent! We protective parents are often the ones that have more separation anxiety than the children! Great way to use that last line to bring the surprise on whose wet cheek it was.

You have stated the "problem" very well as "separation anxiety." I know few parents who do not have it when they send their child off to school. So pleased you liked my senyru. Rod

This senryu, Saying Goodbye First Day of School, captures the words and emotions that are at play on one of these milestone moments. Wet cheeks and reassuring five-year-olds. Nice.

What a great Senryu with much emotion. It reminded me of when I had to say goodbye to my child the first day of school.
Congratulations!

Comment from Dean Kuch
It's really hard watching your kids grow up.
They seem to do so awfully fast these days.
It certainly beats the alternative, however.
Nicely written senryu.
Best wishes to you in the contest.

Lots and lots of emotion and memory in this little senryu. Anyone with children whom they love can certainly relate and appreciate both the enthusiasm of the well raised, confident child and the teary eyed mom. Perfect form and presentation.
Thanks for sharing...best wishes in the contest.

It's always so hard to say goodbye to our children. How will they
be treated? Are there bullies? Will they have fun? Good entry.
You have a compassionate child. flylikeaneagle

Well-written senryu poem. Nice and subtle with mom's emotion and the reassurement of the child that everything is alright. I like this one! Sounds very real to me. Good luck in the contest!

Thank you, Doc. I am so pleased this one sounds real to you. Indeed, it was based on personal experience as both a parent and grandparent. Rod

Glad you one! I knew I picked a winner!

Rod , your Senryu must have hit a bullseye with most parents, (especially weepy moms). I really liked the reversal of the 'strong' one. That is so true. Dads feel the same I think, men are taught not to cry easily.
I really do not find anything to be improved, good luck, Trisha
