Love is what we all seek to touch, feel, experience... live. It can be a roller-coaster ride that is for sure but it is a ride worth taking and one everyone such get to experience. I enjoyed your definitions of what love is and what it means to you and enjoyed your singing off couplet... So true!

You make a strong case for the controversial subject of love.
If readers resonate to it, you might even chalk up some converts.

There is a line I think you should reconsider: "Love is daring and quite wild." (That sounds more like a one-night stand.)

I enjoyed this a lot. I love how each pair of lines is self-contained, but together they tell the beautiful story of growing up, finding love and a career, raising children, and then seeing them lead their own lives. Beautiful work.

Apologies - Kahpot. I wish there was a 4.5 star rating on this website. I am still getting used to the rating system and reviews. I did find a small typo - "truth without a lie" has two spaces in between "a" and "lie" - and a tiny thing that could be used to improve your poem would be to consistently use the beautiful rhythm that occurs in so many of your 7-syllable lines. I think having that consistent rhythm would make your poem exceptional.

Actually I once wrote such a poem. After showing it to my wife I spent several months in intensive care.


Yes Dear


Never argue with Nanna
You will never win that fight
Even when you?re sure she?s wrong
It will turn out that she?s right
Don?t go running to Poppy
He will never take your side
Promised all those years ago
To love and obey the bride
He has now learned the secret
On how to control his fear
He discovered the best response
Of course you?re right, yes dear

And if one day you find out
She has finally got it wrong
Might be best to take a trip
To the moon like Neil Armstrong
Seven days might be enough
For her blood to settle down
Just be careful what you say
Do not try and play the clown
Retreat?s not a backward step
When confronted by a sneer
Survival is what matters
So just smile and say, yes dear


Try and soothe her wounded pride
But do it with gentle care
Maybe a nice compliment
?Bout the colour in her hair
Tell her grey is all the rage
In the women?s magazines
And mention how she fills out
Her size sixteen denim jeans
Remember if things go wrong
There is always Aussie beer
Offer her one, she?ll say no

I'm not an expert on this kind of poetry but it seems very nice to me now. Your rhyming is excellent - the meter is more uneven though, in fact there is no meter so I guess this is part of the style. The message is sweet, Giddy
